To SimpleLife, can you open your acct up to receive PMs?

Hi violetsky. I will add you to my contact list so that you can PM me. Talk to you soon!

Hi again, bringbackpluto! Thanks! That info helps a lot. It’s really nice to know what kind of scholarships they’re giving to the engineering kids. Much congrats on your son’s award. I know that must be a relief to you. Hope we see the same kind of results a year from now!

You too, aGGieENGiNeeR! Really nice, the engineering fellows. You’re a lucky guy. Can I assume, by your user name that A&M is your 1st choice? If you attend SMU and come back to post on CC after you start college, we’re going to have to insist that you change your name!!!

(jk)

I received the $7,500 per year award. I am wondering when, and if, I will receive an award from the Dedman College or any other entity at SMU. SMU is my first choice school, but unless I do not receive more, it will be far to expensive. I could go to TCU for much cheaper since I received $10,000 per year from them and tuition is lower. Someone give me some advice!

“Hang in” jaredtidenberg. A lot of us are in limbo acknowledging the great programs at SMU with the higher price tag. Decisions don’t HAVE to be in for a couple of months still. SMU does do it differently and we find the waiting hard, too. Reading the posts from some who have been down this road, it doesn’t seem unusual for SMU. It seems that those who are are already invited to special programs are the exception…or others just aren’t sharing.
We made the decision that money will play a big part in final decisions at our house. You aren’t alone in the wait.

Anyone else get this letter (under consideration, acceptances TBD later).
What is this program?
Different dorm options and what else?

I would welcome input from anyone who was accepted into this program and can describe it in more detail.

Thanks.

SimpleLife: Yes, Texas A&M is by far my first choice school and SMU would have to give an extremely attractive offer to change that.

My s just got his acceptance letter today with no mention of scholarship money. Does that come later or does that mean he doesn’t get any? He applied RD.

Other threads and posts have indicated that the offers can come piece meal over the next few weeks. Some students have already been notified of some offers, including some offers for President’s interviews in March. Good luck!

Fluffnut: My s got accepted first then two scholarship offers about 4 weeks apart. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that helps.

D recieved Rotunda, Engineering Fellows and Distinguished Scholar scholarships. Under consideration for Hilltop Honors. Will be visiting campus for Mustang Days in April.

beatrojan,
If you don’t mind me asking, is your D’s Engineering Fellows also for $10k per year? Others said that’s the standard amount. My son will be applying for engineering next year, so I’m trying to keep up with what might be available to him. Thanks!

My brother got his acceptance today. He applied on Jan 15. The EFC is close to COA, so i’m thinking it’s not worth wasting $16 on the profile. It’s not required to get scholarship consideration correct?

Thanks

Fellows is $7500.

Gah, I only got $7500 for the Engineering. Does anyone know what they’re looking for to get the full $10k?

From what my son was told, it is mainly your scores…SAT/ACT.

I got the Distinguished Scholar today. Do the scholarships come all at once or separately?

Yeah, because I got the Distinguished Scholar award a few weeks ago, but I have not heard from the Hunt Scholarship, which some people received today.

Thanks for the response Pluto! :)

I wonder how high my ACT needed to be in order to get the 10k. I know I’m nothing like your son, but bummer that it’s considered on test scores… I wish they gave a little mroe weight on engineering ECs/awards. Oh well.
