Which would you go to for a physics or engineering major if you are a female?
Southern Methodist or University of the Pacific?

University of the Pacific

Dallas vs. California. Nothing against Texas (fun times visiting!), but I'd rather live in Calif...which I do. Plus, I like UOP a lot.

i know many people who have gone to UOP and they all love it, ive only heard good things about it. whats so appealing about UOP?

The campus is pretty gorgeous when I visted. The people there seems to be down to earth, aka being "real"." Plus there's also the accelerated professional programs.
No more football team, but there's the basketball team that's pretty good.

I went to UOP and loved it. Great school, small, great attention from profs even one of the top 25% for professor attention according to Newsweeks schoool of engineering poll. Now the question is...
Do I send my daughter there or Virginia Tech for an east coast expierence or Cal Poly SLO (San Luis Obispo)? I live in Cali and UOP is an hour flight home. CSUSLO is a 4 hour drive home and Tech is a great school but on the other side of the country. Tech is appealing to me because of the job growth and housing affordabilty later in life. California is out of control wrt purchasing a home for a young person starting out. She wants a good engineering school. All are respected just do not know. UOP is small, she is a typical martian hermit engineer type that is beautiful. Just don't know what would be best for her.

The Senior VP of marketing from Hewlitt Packard received his engineering degree from UOP I believe.
The reason why I love UOP is because of its laid back atmosphere as well as the close-knit atmosphere.

In most of the Country, UOP is completely unknown. SMU, while not exactly admired as a top school, is known as one that is very connected to power circles.

SMU has a decent EE and CSE program. The campus is nice and many of the buildings are new. It is in the middle of Dallas, you either love that or hate it.
