So I was accepted to both USD (San Diego) and SMU and I have decided that I want to double major in theatre and business, but I didn't know until recently that you had to audition for SMU's theatre program when you apply for the school, so I missed my opportunity to be a theatre major my freshman year. Is it possible to audition for the program as a freshman at SMU and get in my sophomore year, even if it takes an extra year to finish? Also, what are the good and the bad things about both USD's and SMU's theatre programs, because I know that both have great business programs. I am hoping to do some musical theatre, but I also love regular theatre and would be open to that as well. Thank you so much and I would love to hear back from anyone who can help me out :)

My daughter and I took a tour of USD and their theater department. We found that they were very sparse on courses and several of them were considered English classes rather than true theater courses. The campus is gorgeous and they couldn’t have been nicer. She removed them from her list of colleges only because of the number of theater classes available. Take a good look at the course catalogue and courses…

You should definitely contact the Theatre department at SMU to get a specific answer to your question, but based on info on their website, you could TRY to audition into the theatre major once you were a student at SMU. (But realize - there would be NO GUARANTEE that you would be offered a spot.) Do you love SMU enough to attend, even if you aren’t accepted into the Theatre degree program?

So - you’ve completed step one . . . but then there is step two:
