I’m just getting really worried because this will really make or break SMU for me!
Haha @cmarie97, this makes or breaks SMU for me too.
It’s getting to become my dream school, but I simply can’t afford it without the scholarship.
I heard about it b/c I applied EA.
Do you happen to know if siblings are also allowed to attend Interview Day?
@Galore Siblings and parents were welcome at the Hunt Scholarship interview weekend, so I would think the same applies for the Presidential Interview weekend. FYI–For the Hunt’s weekend SMU only paid for one hotel room, so if you needed an additional room for siblings, it was on your own dime. I am fairly certain that parents and siblings were welcome at all of the meals and group events. There are some events that are just for the interviewee. Last year the Presidential and Hunt candidates interviewed on the same weekend.
@doresearch Thank you so much for the info!
@Galore are you a NSLI-Y alum? I haven’t been notified yet, but I thought they sent out info about President’s Scholars in February.
Nope, I’m applying for the first time to NSLI-Y (why did you bring that up, if you don’t mind my asking?).
I applied EA to SMU, and the EA-ers got their letters early (late December).
Has anyone heard about if or when the invitations are being mailed out?
If you applied for RD, late February.
Has anyone gathered whether or not letters were sent on Friday, 2/13 or Saturday, 2/14?
I just got an email today, nothing in the mail yet. I’m from Southern California.
3.96 UW GPA, 4.76 W
35 ACT
National AP scholar, AP scholar with honor, AP scholar with distinction, principal’s honor roll, top 25, IB diploma candidate
rank 14/615
LOTS of music-related ec’s-- first trumpet in all my school’s ensembles, soloist in SoCal’s most prestigious honor jazz band for 3 yrs + some pretty prestigious scholarships/awards from music festivals and music summer programs.
Had 3 of my own bands for 3 yrs, I think that was the leadership component that they were looking for.
didn’t do any clubs or anything like that, I don’t think any of my teachers really liked me, so my recs were 5/10 at most. 9/10 personal statement and essays, though.
The only thing that’s really special about me are my grades/test scores and music awards, so I would guess SMU’s looking at stats mostly and awards maybe to determine finalists.
Does anyone know if SMU pays for the airfare to the interview weekend?
My DS got an email yesterday as well, nothing in the mail yet. There was nothing in regards to paid airfare so I guess it’s on us :-S
Based on past experience, they will pay for hotel accommodations and most of the meals ( on campus ). Candidates will have to pay for their own airfare to get there.
Is this for the Presidential Scholarship? Admissions just told me the invites had not been mailed out. Confused
They do notify a very selected few ( who applied under Early Action ) in January.
But it is February. And are these emails for the Presidential Scholarship or something else. Son applied early action.
