I know this is the SMU forum but I really need some opinions on these schools. I have already applied to all and thus far have been accepted into Baylor. Fairly sure I'll get into all four so I was hoping to get some opinions on overall experience, price vs. educational value, the quality of the professors and the student life of each school. Also, which school would you say has the best internship opportunities (majoring in either business or international relations)? & Most importantly, which school is the strongest school overall?

I definitely reccomend SMU. In terms of internships, SMU has the best options. In my opinion Waco and Fort Worth are both mediocre cities for jobs. SMU has strong ties to business leaders in the Dallas community and you are almost gaurunteed an internship before you graduate. Particularly for business majors, SMU really is the best fit. I visited both Baylor and TCU and SMU , again in my opinion, SMU has the best campus and quality of life.

If you’re worried about what your degree is worth after graduation and what companies will want you, go to UT. If you want internships and a less diverse but more wealthy and connected crowd, go to SMU.

I have companies chasing after me on a daily basis at SMU. McCombs is great, but Cox’s name recognition in the business world is second to none.

UT has a very strong business department, SMU and TCU have many opportunities for internships (with an edge toward SMU for sure) I am not as familiar with Baylor but a friend’s daughter graduated from there last May and got a job right away (accounting major) for a big 6 firm.
If you are looking more toward international business, I think UT or SMU would be the best choices for you. Then decide do you want small school or large school?

As far as business schools go, I would say that UT and SMU are definitely the strongest, and both are very well recognized nationally–and SMU is certainly rising in the ranks so I can only imagine that it will continue to get better. I think the decision ultimately comes down to what sort of environment you are looking for.

If you’re looking for a very big campus with large classes (there are over 5,000 students just in the business school), UT is the place for you. Definitely well-known, so the jobs search will hopefully be pretty easy for you.

In my opinion, SMU would definitely be a better choice because I prefer smaller classes (most business classes are capped at 60) and professors who are very interested in getting to know their students as more than just a number. It’s also very important to consider the location of SMU–Dallas is a huge business hub in Texas which is great not only for internships, but also for jobs after graduation!
