SMU to UNC/NYU/others?

I'm a first year at SMU with a 3.68 after the first semester. 3.8 in business prerequisites. Had a 3.97 weighted in high school, 1250 SAT I - not great. ECs are strong and unique - volunteer EMT, private pilot's license, violin 10+ years, founded a couple of small businesses. Great essays and strong recommendations from professors and a high school teacher who's really pulling for me :). Looking to transfer to unc chapel hill, georgetown, nyu, wash u, or maryland. I'll be applying to the business schools at the schools that require you apply right into the business school as a transfer.

What are my chances??

for most of the schools, you're gonna require at least 60 credits and a handful of prerequisites to get into their business schools. you should wait a year and apply as a junior.

Waiting it out for another year is not an option. My reasons for transferring are not to just go somewhere better. I'm unhappy with the lack of challenge in my course work and I don't enjoy the social scene at my present institution.

Does anyone else have ideas/suggestions?

Just thought it was interesting that you're looking at NYU and UNC, too. I'm also a freshman at SMU trying desperately to get out. I'm not sure about the business school, but it seems like UNC is pretty transfer-friendly in general. Last year they accepted about 900 transfer students, which is the highest number I've come across at the select schools I'm looking at. As SMU's business program has a pretty good reputation, I'd say you have a fair shot at UNC.

I agree. I have a very good feeling about UNC. They seem to be very transfer-friendly. I had the problem originally of being out of state. Hopefully I'll get the yes response and get out of SMU as well.

I am a freshman at UNC so I would like to give you advice about our business school. All UNC students belong to general college until the end of their sophomore year. If they want to be in professional school (like business school) they should apply to it in their sophomore year. If you plan to major in business and do not get into business school, sorry. You have to find another major like econ (so harsh). But our business program is great, and I believe that getting into business school is not as hard as getting into university itself (I heard that average GPA for accepted students is about 3.5). UNC is an amazing school. We have a beautiful campus and really good basket ball team (sorry for duke fans). One of few problems is lack of diversity in student body; there are really small number of international students like me, and remember 82% of student body come from NC. Other than that, I can't tell you how wonderful UNC is. I wish you the best of luck!
