SMU vs. UTD (Computer Science)

Hey guys get accepted to both schools and was wondering which one I should pick thinking about double majoring in CS and Finance. Also got the second century scholars program ($20,000/yr for 4 years) from SMU and no final financial aid package from UTD. So I have some questions regarding both colleges before I want to make my final decision (also still waiting on some other colleges).

Is CS at SMU good compared to UTD?
Is it easy to intern (specifically Amazon, Google, Cisco, Microsoft, etc…) for CS positions at SMU?

If there are some Alums from either school who can help me make my choice that would be great thanks

This is the SMU forum, but… UTD is better for CS. It’s one of their specialties.
Can you list actual net cost?
Did you get into CollegiumV or Smu honors?

The most interesting thing I’ve seen about SMU and jobs is that they are the number one feeder school of Microsoft outside of the west coach. I was told this by the Associate Dean of the Engineering college.

SMU has great connections with the Dallas area. A big downside is the snootiness of the students. Very privileged, non-diverse student body. I say this from my observations and friends and most importantly family friend professors at the school forewarning me of this.

With only a 20k scholarship, SMU will cost you over twice the price of UTD. I’d pick UTD over SMU at that price point.

My son and his wife are both employed at Msft and are CS graduates of SMU. She also interned at Google.

You should see where the students get employed after UTD.

Also pick the school that you love.

By the way congrats on your 20k scholarship. That was not easy to get. My son didn’t get a scholarship: however, he’s set for life.

You are very fortunate you got that offer from a highly esteemed university.

I highly would recommend SMU.

I have recruited at both business schools and quality is much better at SMU, which is on par with UT-Austin. Ask both schools’ placement offices about the % of students returning each year and then where they get full-time jobs. Also ask about internships. I know you can tailor your major at SMU and there are a ton of internships.
