Hello,
Can anyone with personal experience please help us? Our son has been accepted to SMU and Vanderbilt for Engineering. We toured both schools this last week and love them equally. It’s crazy how similar they actually are! Here’s the problem: SMU has given him a ton of money and they shower him with personal cards, letters, and phone calls. Vandy will be a financial stretch for us, and while they are friendly, they haven’t demonstrated the same interest/ care that he attend there. I’m trying to not read too much into that, chalking it up as personality differences?? My son is looking at ME and/ or Finance majors. It’s hard to say no to Vanderbilt since he loves it as much as SMU AND has a much bigger reputation. Wondering if the extra 80K it would cost us is worth the difference. Btw, starting salaries and job placement for ME are identical for these schools. Not sure about finance.
Thank you!! We need to make a decision by April 30th (THIS FRIDAY!)
Im at smu and was rejected from vandy. Ive seen our relationship described as students prefer 85%-15% vandy to smu. But honestly both are great. Vandy iss helped by a 4.5 billion dollar endowment and since this was posted a week ago and decisions were due on may 1 I would love to know which was selected because both are great places to be (my best friend is at vandy).
