Sneaking dorm food >:)

Was it given, or stolen? Because it’s not entirely uncommon for the dining halls and cafes to send home extras with anyone who’s still hanging around at closing time. 'Tis a sweet deal.

So there’s backpack racks?? Thats crazy!! I wouldn’t trust leaving my bag unattended! But it is what it is! From what I know you can get one to go meal each day so I guess I’ll do that and save it for the weekends since I got the five day plan :)

^ u don’t always have too it depends who scanning your card sometimes I walk in with a backpack or bag and they don’t bat an eyelash other times they’ll ask you can u please leave your stuff on the rack.

sneaking food is easy I always sneak extra deserts or something small in my pockets and they don’t even notice.

Thanks everyone for you’re info!!

@Liesel

I’m pretty sure entire tubs of Nutella aren’t just given away to employees
I’m talking brand new, never been opened food that is “given” to workers. Granted, my friends never took any of this stuff on their own, they had help from the cooks and whatnot…

USC has an “unlimited swipes” plan. If you read their web site they actually say something to the effect of take a piece of fruit with you when you leave the cafeteria for a snack later. I assume this means that within reason you can take other food for the road. At $2500 a semester it seems like you should be able to get your moneys worth.

So wait… you arnt allowed to eat in your dorm room?

@marthajp59: Nope. Fruit or dessert. Some dining hall workers are more lax about this than others, though.

@Biomajorathlete: No, you can. But you have to provide the food, not the dining hall.

What if you have a meal plan! Then you already pay for it!

The dining hall doesn’t “allow” or want students to be taking anything out of the dining hall that isn’t a piece of fruit or 1 item of dessert but honestly, every time I go to the DH, there’s always someone getting caught with taking more than just one item.

Cashiers and Managers are the main people that care about this sort of thing. Even though, most of the cashiers i knew didn’t really care (including myself), at least try to make it not obvious about sneaking food out.

It’s so easy to walk out with a burrito, a couple pizza slices, a salad, and maybe even a sandwich, all wrapped up with napkins, in your backpack and walk out like a boss.

If you can get away from taking food from the dining hall, go right ahead. If you get caught, just make sure you don’t get caught by Nate. haha

Additional inside information regarding taking food out of DH:

Cashiers (student only = blue t-shirt):

-They will give you a warning (if no managers around), or will give you the blind eyes

Managers (student manager = green polo, Full time manager = black uniform, Full time workers = blue polo):

-small items/offense (like taking two fruit/desert), they will ask you to take it back.
-big offense (like taking a jug of milk or a bag of food and intentionally stuffing in backpack), can result in taking down your driver license # and be added in police record. I have seen this happen esp. in the middle of the year when everyone knows what the rules are.

So defiantly, as others have suggested. Be careful.

JUSTDOIT415, “just make sure you don’t get caught by nate”

lol! What will he do!

Biomajorathlete: What if you have a meal plan! Then you already pay for it!

Yeah, you do…but they don’t want you taking out food to feed someone else who hasn’t paid. That’s my best guess.

^It also throws off the amount of food and ingredients they need to order for the next week/month/whatever. They like to get an idea of how much people are eating IN THE DINING HALL, not in their dorms. It’s their job to feed you in the dining hall when you pay for a meal. Everything else is supposed to be your responsibility.

Get over it or man up and DISCRETELY take food like everyone else.

I guess I’ll eat AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to get my money’s worth lol ;)
