What is snell-hitchcock like? I put it as #1 on my housing form and I'm not sure if I should switch it with Max P...suggestions?

Hey! I lived in Max P last year, and I loved it. Both Snell-Hitchcock and Max P are very close to the quads (Snitchcock is on the quads!), and really popular dorms - SH is more of your ivy-covered castle with mainly single rooms, and Max is a huge colorful series of three buildings with suite-style rooms.
Max was my first choice dorm because I wanted to live in a suite. Suites have two half-bathrooms shared between four people, split into two bedrooms (so I had one roomie and two ‘suite-mates’). You also have a little entry-way thing where I kept a mini-fridge and about 100 packs of Ramen noodles. Max is known for being filled with pretty out-going and social students, many of whom are athletes, as it’s so close to the Ratner and Henry Crown gyms. I met my best friends there.
Snell-Hitchcock is very gothic and beautiful in appearance, and has Harry Potter-esque house lounges and community bathrooms. It is filled with really interesting people who generally prefer independence - although all first-years have roommates - and is known for its total dominance in Scav Hunt. There’s also a very strong house culture.

When I was an undergrad Snell-Hitchcock “interesting” meant lots of geeks, gamers, and hacker-types and higher than average occurrences of hair dye and Birkenstocks-in-the-dead-of-winter than your random UChicago sample.

And then you’ll graduate and attend a fair share of met-in-Snitchcock weddings :-)

One thing I will say about Snitchcock is that Scav Hunt is heavily ingrained into the culture. If you live in Snitchcock, you will most certainly scav, and if you don’t scav or aren’t into what scav culture sounds like, you’ll spend the whole year hearing about scav and you won’t be able to avoid it. If you live in another dorm that has a smaller scav culture (BJ, Pierce/Maclean, Max) you’ll only see scav for only four days a year and attend scav parties the rest of the year.

Max “types” are - stereotypically, at least- your bro next door. My impression was that Max kids didn’t have as much house culture and house allegiance, per se, but I’ve seen some kids who are very into Max P house life.

That said, you’re going to find all types in all dorms, so rank whatever you deem best fit for your needs.
