Are there ever snow days at the U-M?

I don't go to U of M but I've seen the campus closed on the news before due to the snow.

No, there are never snow days at U-M.

Michigan has not had a snow day in ages, if at all. I know for a fact that there haven't been any since 1992.

Snow? What's that?

Nope, U-M is almost ALWAYS in session.

Last time campus would've been "closed" due to snow was sometime back in the 1970s. I can't remember if my parents said that they had one, or that they had heard of one a few years before them.

Even when campus flooded last year, we still had class. There was about a 3 foot wide river flowing down the edge of state street (some girl tried to jump it in sandals; she came up short, and the current pulled of her sandal and started to carry it away). The entrance into the basement of Mason Hall I usually take was blocked by about 3-5 feet of water. And my classroom flooded (we stood around before class watching the water slowly move down the hallway). Oh yeah, and despite the fact that I used an umbrella, I think the top of my head was the only part of my body not completely soaked by the time I got to class.

I think they had one in 1974.

They did suspend classes on 9/11/2001, but obviously that was not weather-related.

my school, which is basically on Lake Erie...had a snow day last year. It was glorious...except for the fact that I got sick and couldn't get medicine/to the health services. It was awful. There was a good two feet of snow though...in one day...in addition to the snow already on the ground.

i believe the story goes that we got sued by our own lawyers club. they argued that suspending school would be a waste of their tuition dollars...and we haven't had a snow day since.

hooray for getting sued by your own students?

That never happened.

Yeah, that lawsuit is part of Michigan folklore, but it is a fabrication.
