Snowball Fights?

As an OOS student, I know Michigan is cold beyond belief but does it snow a lot? And how serious are snowball fights if there any? Like is it to the point where walking to classes in the winter is like going through no-man's land? Or is everyone too busy getting to class to throw snowballs? I know it's an incredibly silly question but it's better to be safe than sorry Isuppose. BTW, I'm in West Quad.

You should take snowball fight classes. These will prepare you for UMich. If you are not ready, you will feel the pain.

i heard that it never rains in ann arbor.. it just snows.

and i'm assuming there aren't much snowball fights because those umich people are so used to the snow and probably even sick of it.

there are better things you can do with snow...(palmer field, late January)

Umm...it rains here. Like it did today.

The main snowball fight is South Quad vs West Quad at midnight after the first major snowfall. Haven't seen anything besides that.

of course it rains.. just rarely.

Sounds cool. Can anyone describe the event. Like is it a massive full-scale war between the two Houses?

Yes. The fire alarms go off in both buildings so as to make sure that the entire dorms face each other. Cop cars block off the road. There is a TV camera or two. And if you just sit back and watch, you realize that the whole fight is just this whitish haze going up to about the 3rd floor of either dorm. It can get pretty violent too. The cars on the street tend to get some damage.

Ok. Are you serious or just joking. Because I know college events can get pretty serious.

Oh, it's real. And it's spectacular.

are there generals or any kind of leadership going on? Or is it just a free-for-all?

Generally a free-for-all, though it would be nice if a few people would step up and take command. Technically West Quad is defending their courtyard and South Quad is defending their flagpole.

I think mario maniham speared my friend

dunno

Haha... that would be cool if their were officers to issue commands and formations. I can just picture a front line of sophomores throwing their snowballs and ducking so the juniors behind can launch their barrage. Then some senior yells Flank left!!! and a bunch of freshman make a charge. While engineering students ready some kind of make-shift trebuchet or catapult to provide covering fire. I'm a bit tipsy now and a friend showed me some war game called Call of Duty 2. So... Excuse the silliness.

call of duty rules!!!! hahaha..yea that was random

Nothing like the snowball fight. It's a great night, just be hopeful it's not the week before finals like it was last year. You might need to help it get going too. A few guys and I stood outside and egged on people walking by and into South Quad to get the tension going, then it sort of just started around midnight.

well azurek, it's not exactly like that but there are definitely pre-meditated charges about every 5 minutes on any given side that the other dorm is forced to fend off. Those are always fun. I was suplexed by a very large football player last year after I speared who I think might have been a smaller football player (who was still larger than me). The big guy must have been an O-lineman cuz he was huge and picked me up with very little effort and brought me to the ground (and I'm still 6-foot, 180 lbs). It gets crazy.

Before Finals Week!!!!! that sucks I mean you can't afford to fail those tests.

Yeah. So if I'm over at say, Markley, and would like to join in, which would be the side to join?

I'll probably have a couple friends in South Quad for Honors if that makes a difference

Depends, do you want to win?

And charges aren't really don't by anyone particular, but the build-up to them is amazing. Nothing like being backed up by a bunch of 6-6, 320 lb boys too.
