I've done both. Snowboarding is faster to learn but it is a pretty miserable couple of days. With skiing, it takes much longer to get to a reasonable degree of proficiency, but learning is actually easier. I prefer snowboarding because I love the feel of the board under me going through snow. I like manipulating it, and I like that I'm not actually facing down the moutain. Feel free to learn one and then try the other to see which you like best. Both will take some time to learn, so be patient with it.

I think both skiing and snowboarding are cool as hell. I've done both, and skiing was much easier to pick up. Within a couple of hours, I could head down the blue square slopes and not kill myself. After a few trips, I could ski down some easier black diamonds...it's a blast. Snowboarding...that was a painful day. I think I fell more that first day than in all the times I've ever skiied. But it was fun. Try both, and with some patience and practice (and pain), you'll love them both.

I did skiing and never did snowboarding. I think skiing is a more interesting sport.
