I'm coming from the south, so we don't get a lot of snow like Michigan, but should I buy snow boots or somewhere at the mall?
And what type?

Timberlands, and yea they are definitely useful when we have some of the worse storms

Timberland waterproof boots work well. They’re good at plowing the snow but I would go the winter without boots for the snow.

So you recommend no boots for the winter?

You want boots or something at least waterproof for the winter. Never know when you’re gonna have to wade through snow.

You don’t need to get timberlands, but I would recommend investing in nice, warm, comfortable boots.

And you said you’re from the South, right? That mean I can be expecting to see you walking around campus in a full winter coat by October haha

missing the word “NOT”. I would NOT go without boots.

Yeah, thanks for the help.
I’m bringing up a couple of long sleeve shirts and hoodies to wear inside/when its not as cold, and one slightly thick and a north face jackets. But I’m gonna have to shop…
not used to cold weather at all.

^you are gonna be hilarious on campus

Best post of the day goes to Purple Duck Man.

A couple of long sleeve shirts won’t do. It gets cold in Michigan. ;)

Lol crap, what all do I need…

Cold gear underarmor

To be honest, all you really need is an insulated northface jacket, or something that’s weather-rated (or however that **** works) to ~ -30 or -40 degrees. And some long underwear. I wear jeans in the winter, and then ill wear a shirt, a sweatshirt, and then my winter jacket. And I grew up living on the beach in california, so by most standards I am a loser when it comes to the cold. It’s really only cold when the temperature is below 0 and the windchill is like -20.

In January they’ll be a couple week period where you’ll need more than normal winter gear

(in case you’re a girl) don’t buy suede boots, buy something waterproof.

Our S. Floridian D has weathered 3 Michigan winters with a Northface coat, Northface snowboots and lots of long johns. Buy the long johns as soon as they get into the stores…they sell-out fast!

She also has one of those plaid hunter style hats with the wool lining and flaps over the ears that she loves. I’m sure PurpleDuckMan has chuckled as she passes by (or maybe he’s just wishing he was dressed as warm!;)

lol our D wears one of these at her college out east. She loves it! They already think she’s Canadian, anyway, from her north/midwestern accent, & this just reinforces the stereotype :)

Oh no, those hats are pretty awesome

I chuckle at the students in full winter gear in October, thinking this is as cold as it gets

Damn…I’m screwed.

My D1 just purchased a coat on Land’s End that has a -30 rating and it was $40. She isn’t used to being outside of long periods of time in the winter even though we are from Ohio. She would run from the car to the school and a Northface would work fine. However she has a long walk to her classes so we felt something warmer would be better for her. Try looking now and getting ready for the cold days because the prices are much better. It will be here before you know it.
