so a couple of questions for those attending from an accepted ED applicant

are the dorms furnished?

if so, what do they include? specifically like TV, computer, modem and such?

are there good parking lots? are they free?

nearby airport?

Dorms have a bed, desk, lamp, dresser, and closet. Parking is about 650/year on campus, but there are lots close to the freshman dorms. Closest airport is Ithaca/Tompkins (ITH); other airports are Syracuse (SYR, about an hour away), Elmira/Corning (45ish minutes away) and I think there might be another in the area. I know a lot of people (especially internationals) fly to NYC and take a bus over (5-6 hours) if you want to do that.

5-6 hours busing.. that's pretty far. hm so how big are the two beds dorm rooms? And how long on average do we stay in our dorms per day?

Good thing I live only an hour away : P

how long you stay in your dorm depends on how close your dorm is to class. I live kind of far away, so I leave in the morning, and come back after everything is done at night.

I was reading about the townhouse option for freshmen..anyone here do that/have opinions about it?

does anyone know where they sell cornell sweatshirts?
and my previous question of the internet/computer thing, do they provide internet? do i have to bring my own desktop/laptop

where do you get the car decal???

I was randomly trying out flight tickets and found that pretty much no flights go from my airport, BWI, to Ithaca straight. WHat kind of transportation can I get from Syracuse to and from Cornell?

heh, lotsa questions....

add to the airports would be rochester, each airport has its shortcomings and it's all a matter of preference.

Are you crazy?! a TV in the dorm rooms? ahahaha, you're lucky if you get some free food from cornell, let alon a tv. Ummm...internet is part of housing, but there is a 5 GB limit on outside uploading and downloading. Don't worry, unless you're torrenting constantly you most likely won't even go over 2 GB cuz you can get nearly everything off DC++, which is an intra-filesharing service that is supposedly illegal so just forget what I just said. You can go and buy a fridge for cheap, but it has to be mini. Microwaves are illegal, but you can still get one as long as housing ppl don't know about it. Modem?! ***...it's all at least 1Mbs high speed. Cable access through cornell is $40/month.

parking I think is $600/year and there are 2 huge lots on north. You will not be driving to class, so forget it. The only ppl that I know that have cars are ones that live close and might go home ever other weekend or so.

townhouses- there are a lot of townhouses, there are I think the farthest living quarters from campus besides the eco house. Most ppl don't like them mostly because it's damn far from anything, especially food.

cornell sweatshirts-everywhere in ithaca, you could go to mall in ithaca and get one.

computer-they say you don't have to bring a computer with you, but you really should, there's no way one is going to a coputer lab in subzero weather to finish a paper, it's just impractical.

transportation- mostly by buses if you want to get out of cornell. I think Cornell has some deal with shortline or greyhound for busing to syracuse. You could also try rochester or cortland/elmira or even binghampton.

car decal-when you get your orientation packet you'll have the option on one of the forms to get a car decal. Man, that's like half a year away, just calm down man.

What? I never saw the option for the car decal, then again I never really read the packet.

Do we share bathrooms with the people on the same floor? or is there one in the apartment? Thx

Oh and what's the best dorm for freshmen? so excited to come to Cornell next year

so they have internet but its not cable?
does that mean its dial up?
and we have to pay to get our own cable internet installed?
that sucks!

It does suck.. $40/month? I thought room/board includes all these fees!

can someone post a pic of a typical dorm?

the $40/month is for cable tv not cable internet

yea Bump for dorm pic!

what? they have cable, it's high speed...100 Mbps. I was talking about cable television, it's $40/month. Ummm... I think you'll get another packege for housing and stuff in april or sometime. And there's wireless in nearly every place on campus as well. It's all free, there's just a limit of 5 Gb on uploading and downloading every month.

random dorm room? They're all so different, it really depends on where you're living. got to
www.housing.cornell.edu/ if you want to check out dorms and stuff. I dunno about pics, just friend a random freshman on facebook and check out the photo albums. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of pics of the dorm rooms.

internet is 10mbps. They dont have gigabit :(

the 5gig limit is only for external internet use- such as websites and such.however, use dc++ for all downloads; it has not limit up or down because it uses the cornell's local network.

download a free bandwidth tracker to see if on average you exceed the 5gig limit.(very unlikely, unless you watch and download porn continuously in which case, you can use dc++ to get your PRON on.
