Who's lived there and how was it? Who's going to live there? Anyone in CLP? Also, If anyone has pictures of a room there that isn't as sucky as the ones on the housing site, can u send them to me? I'm trying to buy stuff for my room but I can't really judge how much space I have from the pics on there.

Cobb is sweetness. Most rooms (there are some random exceptions) are pretty nice in size.

Your room will have a closet with a door, probably 3.5 by 2.5 feet, and a shelf up in the closet. Furniture includes a desk with drawers, a bed, a desk chair and a dresser. There are no shelves besides the one in the closet.

Unless you loft your bed there probably won’t be room for an extra chair like those nice round fabric ones. I say probably because if you are better at organizing than I am, it could work for you.

The floor is tile, so you might want to get a rug. I couldn’t even guess on measurements for that though, you’d need to ask housing.

The lights are in the cieling, so a smaller desk lamp or a clip lamp might be good if you need to see after your roommate is asleep.

If you live on forth floor, you really can’t bunk your beds because the cieling is sloped (you’ll see what I mean) which makes the room look cool, but effectively makes it smaller.

I have been assigned Cobb triple occupancy through CLP - which means I will be on the first floor. I see the rooms are so small - are triple occupancy dorms bigger - how does it work?

And the triple rooms are considerably larger than the doubles. They are at the ends of the halls near the stairs. I think there are 8 on each floor.

I guess the cats outta the bag for everyone by now heh, But I knew because both me and the person I chose to room with are in the CLP. Hey, Packerfan, how’d you like Cobb? And I’m in room 153. Any idea what floor that is?

I liked it. It is not as social as the other freshman dorms, but that’s not a big deal. I didn’t know too many people on my hall, or even in the building, but I had plenty of friends down in south campus. But the facilities are very nice, some of the best at UNC. Kitchens on every floor, the bathrooms are cleaned everyday except Sunday, Game room and movie room in the basement, and huge laundry room compared to other dorms. It’s a nice dorm to be in, so you should enjoy it. And I probably was not as social as I could have been first semester because of Physics 116.

The doors close automatically, which can be annoying. You can keep them open using a door stop that the RAs will give you. Also, depending on your RA, you can unscrew the connection at the top of the door at the beginning of the year and screw them back in at the end of the year.

Laundry is 1.00 for each load in the washer and .50 for each dryer cycle.

You are supposed to have a refrigerator per room, but lots of people have 2. Once again, the RA’s are pretty understanding.

I also got Cobb for the CLP, I’m in 118. Is the dorm really that bad socially or is it mainly rumors? I know that there are more upperclassmen but it seems like with CLP and honors, the bottom floor should be mainly first years?

One of my best friends is living in Cobb next year. So is her ex (and it’s still one of those weird, awkward situations where things haven’t really resolved). That’s about all I know about Cobb that you can’t find on the website.

inflagoman, let me re-phrase what I said. Cobb is not bad socially. It is bad relatively speaking to the freshman dorms on south campus. I know plenty of people that had most of their friends from Cobb. I just wasn’t one of them. Being in CLP will definitely help you meet people. I know a lot of people in Men at Carolina became really good friends over the year.

The bottom floor is not mostly first years though, from what I can remember. I didn’t go down there too much though, so take that with a grain of salt. :P

This is a rather odd and random question but do the showers in Cobb have individual doors or is there just a shower curtain that seperates each bath. I can’t really tell from the pictures on the housing website.
