It's someone else's.

Nice, UVA.

I hope you’ll call to let someone know about this.

Unfortunately, this is bound to happen once in a while when there are almost 22,000 letters to print, stuff and mail. We apologize and hope you will be in touch so we can get proper letters out to you and the other student.

Dean J.,

I didn’t mean to be so bitter – I can understand it’s likely that such things happen.

However, I did receive my actual waitlist letter today. The letter I received previously was addressed to a legacy applicant and included a specific reference to this fact. I, too, am a legacy applicant, yet my letter does not contain any such reference.

Was I incorrectly processed as a non-legacy applicant? I double-checked my Common App, and my parent’s information was correctly listed.

Thanks for your time.

Edit: Also, the letter is dated April 1st.

The fact that an envelope was generated for that first letter says to me that a letter was also generated. The “job” sends the letters to one set of printers and the envelopes to another set. Staff members have to physically fold and match the letters to the envelopes.
