i was going to submit commonapp arts supplement for me playing my drums. but i was self taught, so what should i do because common app won't let me send the supplement without an instructor's recommendation. is my best course of action calling the colleges and asking what they want or should i just send in the stuff by snail mail? any other ideas...? thanks in advance

Hmmmm. First I'd switch the Arts Supplement to paper-based right away so you can get your application in online without commonapp.org throwing stuff in your face. Plan on mailing the supplement, with or without a recommendation. As to the recommendation... have you played any performances, worked with a band, ... anything that would result in somebody (other than you or your family) being able to make a statement about your ability?

thanks for the response. i guess i could ask someone who's seen me grow as a player write me a quick recommendation. so should i just send in the arts supplement snail mail asap even though i passed the jan 1st deadline? or should i call the colleges first and see what they say?

Go ahead and send it, but it wouldn't hurt to call the colleges and let them know it's on its way.

ok great! Thanks!
