so... am I screwed?

here's the dealio kiddos: I was an A student in 9th and 10th grades. I had one B+ in AP Bio, 2 A-s in 9th grade, nothing worse. I worked really hard. This year, I, again, worked really hard, but in return have very different results. I do have harder classes this year, so that might have made some difference. I loved my classes, learned a lot, but in the end, of my 6 classes, I have an A in painting, a B in AP US history, and a B+ in the other 4. Sort of different from before. One of these I was very happy about. I was nearly failing at the beginning of that class, but it was a research class and I'm really proud that I learned the ropes and improved. 2 others were expected (both AP classes). the other was kind of an end-year shock in honors pre-calc, but now I'm not so sure why I was so surprised. that class was... well, challenging. My GPA didn't take such a bad hit since my school only does weighted, and the only problem is that I guess it looks kind of weird. I know schools really like improvement. my question is, if I'm taking harder classes, does it look really bad if I've gotten worse grades? to append this, I really have no senior year saving grace because I'm studying abroad senior year, where I've been told it's a pretty bad idea to take hard classes when just learning the language (and I agree). what do you think? think small liberal arts college admissions cases because that's mainly where I'm applying to. Thank you in advance :)

Maybe you should try to talk about that in your essays.
Like, don’t make excuses, but somehow say in there that you went from failing to a B in the research class.

I’m just as confused as you are though, being a student, trying to get into college next year…
