Maybe people shouldn't take Calc BC junior year. What's the point?

or ever....

Or freshman year... :D

Calc BC is def hard. last year for honors precalc, i dozed in class, never took notes, and got 97% at end of the year.

then Calc BC, F on first quiz so i pulled my act together. i work twice as hard in Calc BC than last year and am pulling B+/A

I got straight As from Algebra 1, but for Calc BC, I barely strived to a C (so ashamed to say that..) our teacher is very strict, she had at least 30/35 people getting 5 last year on the AP..

and sometimes it can be very annoying that we (trig-H) people have the same class as the Calc AB ppl, for the 1st semester, which is till now, it's basicly review for them...but us...and the teacher just assume we have the ability digesting contents as the AB ppl...

I would have chosen AB, but in my school, if ppl get As in trig-H, they have to go to BC, so life is tough...

What's in Calc? Is there alot of trig? Or is it more algebra-based?

I love trig and functions (except for log/exponential functions), so if Calc has alot of that then I'll def. take it.

umm not so much trig. It's mostly just new concepts (differentiation, integration) and quite a lot of graphical approaches as well. Some concepts are then applied to trig briefly.

I'll still probably take it. I actually think graphing is the best part of precalc this year.

Calc BC is so much easier if you've done AB first. I don't know how you guys get through it. I'd probably be struggling more. In AB I finished with like a 99 and hoping to get the same grade this year in BC. But I have an amazing teachcer who really wants you to learn, so that helps.

Calc BC is a few more topics than AB such as parametric differentiation, taylor polynomials...etc. other than that, its just that the problems are harder and the class is faster pace.

Yea I don't understand, why is Calc BC soo hard? And I have to say "LifeUnfolding," it's not necessarily true if you take AB first that will make BC easier. Case in point: There's this one guy who's an abosultely OUTSTANDING studnt, had a 4.0 each semester, one of the top students in my class, and overall a genius. But he told me he got a C for the quarter! And he's so good in math! I didn't get it, and I'm sure he wasn't lazy or anything cause he never is! Well I think he got at most a B for the semester, but why is Calc BC so much harder? Because apparently it is

Because of certain circumstances :D, I'm going to be taking PreCalculus at my school and BC Calculus online concurrently. In fact, I'll finish BC Calculus before I finish PreCalculus.

Am I d00|\/|3d? :D

Ooh, that's weird. That's like how I'm taking precalc and alg. 2 at the same time.

Where can you take BC online? FLVS only has AB....

some teachers can't teach calc...

It's from John Hopkins' CTY Distance Education.

If you are a math genius and you put some effort into, you should be perfectly fine. In fact, most of the juniors in our class were doing much better than seniors. It was probably because they were in the mindset of getting their gpa's higher while most of the seniors in BC had already been accepted early to top schools. TRY HARD!

well, how much harder is BC than AB? and why?

yeah. i think ab's pretty easy but i hear bc's a monster! why?

BC is supposed to be just 2x faster than AB, but its much worse than that. The tests are more college level...well actually I know BC alumni who have said it was harder than 2nd year calculus at schools like UT Austin and U Michigan. So it's faster and the problems are more difficult. And at our school at least, the homework policy is MUCH worse.

That's interesting. Every kid in my BC class had AB last year and all passed and all but one out of 14ish got a 4 or 5. I know people aren't doing well in there now, but most of them aren't because they don't do homework(which our teacher grades for accuracy and only accepts one late homework). But, for those of us who did decent and well last year, it's way easier. This goes for last year's class as well. Some of the chapters are more difficult than AB, but if you have a good teacher than it's decent. Does the guy have a different teacher? I know that most people hate BC/Calc II because of their teacher. I guess I am blessed!
