Rising senior here and since the common app just opened I figure its about time to start on college apps. So I'd like some feedback on the colleges I'm thinking about applying to and if there are any more out there I should take a look at.

Figure out your budget. Then put “cost of attendance” and “financial aid estimator” in each schools web page search box.

Most out-of-state public universities and New York University have a reputation of not giving very good financial aid, so New York University and Michigan should be considered reach at best (or out-of-reach and not worth applying to if there is no chance of affording them).

Consider adding SUNY Stony Brook and University of Minnesota. Both are well regarded for math. SUNY would be in-state tuition and financial aid, while Minnesota has a relatively low out-of-state list price (unlike Michigan).

Don’t forget to have a safety that you are certain to get admitted to and certain that you can afford.
