So, are you looking forward to the holiday application crunch too?

This was my answer (D got deferred):
1) You’ve done absolutely the best you could and this is all that matters – it’s paralyzing and self-destructive to get frustrated about things that you cannot control
2) You’ve applied to one of the most competitive programs in one of the most competitive colleges – this is like playing a lottery no matter how qualified you are
3) The only devastating life events concern health, safety and relationships; nothing else really matter in the long run
4) if you can’t handle competitive environment you’d better reconsider your college choices before it’s too late
5) consider yourself fortunate for having a potential to achieve your outstanding credentials – how would it make you feel if you could not even qualify for admission to your dream school?
6) life is not always fair - better get used to it

Having said this, we’ve had every reason to expect her to get accepted. This year ED/EA admission results were very disappointing not just for us, but also for D’s classmates and many our and her friends – would never have predicted this based on the last year admission stats

Thankfully, D has recovered gracefully and completed all her remaining applications over this weekend. It helps that she had gotten a rolling acceptance into UMichigan-Ann Arbor and should be very happy there even if there are no other choices.
