This isn't your typlical plea for essay help. I don't need anyone to read my essays, or help me decide between " two " and " 2 "- but rather I need someone experienced with college admissions to give me feedback on myself.

I have struggled for so many months thinking about a personal statement. I don't want to lie about things that I haven't done (like my friends are planning on doing) because I don't want to compromise my moral beliefs. I've had such an average life- small town america, no death/terminal illnesses, great internships, numerous leadership positions in my high school....that I don't know what to write about. The only thing I'm sure of is that I (a) want to get out of Maryland (where I live) and (b) I want to be a journalist. But I feel like everything I'm writting for college apps has to do w/ journalism and nothing else. I play the violin, but hate it. I'm not athletic.

The point is- I want to go to college in a new environment because I have reached the limit of how much I'm going to grow in my current state. I'm frustrated with my surroundings and want to experience so many different and new things.

The problem is, I don't think adcoms want to hear about a 17 year old upper-middle class girl who is complaining that she hasn't " lived. "

Please help. I have deadlines two weeks away and I am the most boring person alive. <3

Suggestions? Thoughts? Things I could write about? I really have no idea. I'm truly lost except for journalism. And I don't want to make it seem like I have no life outside of school and journalism.

I don't believe you. Everyone in this world has a story to tell. Maybe it was something small then but you remember back on it now and impacted you in some shape or form.

Talk about your aspirations. Talk about the struggles you had to face and overcome. Talk about what's important to you. You have values, memories, beliefs. Because you're a human being. You do have things to write about. Period.

i just, really honestly cannot think of anything in my life.
the main issue i've had in high schools is getting away from fake people and making quality friends. i've done a LOT in terms of clubs & stuff but thats it :/ .

Is there a class that influenced you? A favorite teacher? A favorite book? There's gotta be something you can write about! :)

I'm sorry, but I beg to differ. Most college applicants are 17 or 18- exactly how much of life do you think they've seen??? I think colleges are looking for people who want to get outside their comfort zone and learn and have new experiences, which sounds a lot like you.

You have to have something you want to write about, or at least can BS enough about (I know that sounds bad, but...) to get a good essay out of it. Consider this, I had no ECs until the 11th grade, pretty much no life outside of schools, nothing of real distinguishing note. So what did I write about? My personality (everyone has one of those), my moderation of a small sports website, what I have read in the past month, what I would add to a school if I ran it.

If you have no life outside of school and journalism...then write about school and jornalism. If you like jornalism that much, maybe compare/contrast your personal qualities with those of a famous news reporter, both showing a knowledge of the field you want to go into and something about you. If you want to leave, tell them why. Be creative about it. If I were in your situation, I may just set up an essay like a story in the newspaper and describe your feelings on where you are and where you want to go.

Of course, maybe you should talk to someone who knows what they are talking about, or a GC/Admissions Counselor and get some advice, there are just ideas out of my head.

What have you learned from your leadership positions. What was hard initially and how did you grow. Did you try things that didn't work. Did you change how you led. Which styles were more succesful? How did you find real true friends vs fake people. Sounds like you have great stories to tell. Believe in yourself and then the reps will believe in you as well! Good luck!!
