I'm in So.Cal, so i pretty much know how a typical So.Cal college life is... warm climate, beautiful girls of every race and cultural background, LOTS of some of the best beaches in the nation, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, good shopping malls, spanish, etc. College students in L.A. Area (UCLA, USC, etc) go to beach whenever possible, party till late at night, go to Hollywood for some clubbin', and rich girls frequently visit Beverly Hills for shopping.

Now my cousin lives in Nor. Cal and I've visited her a few times, so I have some idea on how Nor.Cal is like.. and the first thing I noticed was.. it was windy as HELL! and cold seriously and you have to pay to cross bridges and people are arrogant as hell and think they are the smartest people in the world (including my cousin, who eventually went to the East Coast for graduate school where people of her personality would fit in perfectly).

Can anyone tell me how a typical Nor. Cal college life is? I'm talking about schools with close proximity to San Francisco (like Berkeley and Stanford). I know Nor. Cal and So. Cal has totally different culture, so I was wondering exactly what separates the two, in terms of lifestyle of college students.

you'll be suprised how untrue your stereotype about socal really is once you go to college. Well, may be its true at USC, but UCLA isn't really all fun and games with parties all the time and great girls everywhere. In fact, it's really stressful because the quarter system goes uber fast and you have a midterm like everyweek. I know Cal is on a semester system and i envy them.

Actually i think you've got the arrogant part wrong too. Nor cal isn't all arrogant know-it-alls, but many are more down-to earth than us socal ppl. Anyways, don't make ur decision based on the culture, go to a school that fits you better. Most of that culture stuff u pointed out are just stereotypes.

USC's on the semester system and it's still lightning fast in the same way. biweekly midterms, weekly quizzes which feel like midterms, and infinitely long problem sets. But hey, what you expect from engineering? :)

I think some people do get really into the social/party scene (at both USC and UCLA) but for the most part people are really more studious that you'd expect

If you want to know about TRUE Norcal, ask about Humboldt County and that 300 mile expanse above San Francisco. Its awesome. People are laid back, chill, awesome, and they say hella quite a bit. Its not so warm here, but at least you don't have to deal with uptight people who are obsessed with money and clothing, etc. Oh yea, and it is BEAUTIFUL.

I went back east for college last year and came RUNNING home!
