So i am a freshamn in high school. So heres my plans. Also tell me if i had a chance hypothectically speaking.
I am a african american girl
My aunt does not have a job,
She is single(single parent home)
I do not live with my mother or father. They were never married. My mother had me at 18, and my father went to prison for 10 years. I only have talked to him for 4 weeks.
I go to a public high school, where last year only 17 students went to college. So here are here you go:
Freshman Year Extracirriculars: During the summer: Summer job for tech corps
Computing Career Corps Program
Cosi Medical Program
Sparks Leadership Training Program
Volunteer at nursing home 2nd and 4th saturdays(for 1 hour)
Sophmore year extracirriuclars:
Cosi medical program
Peer educator
Model Un
Nursing Home
During the summer:
OSU MD Program, and Volunteer at Wexner Medical Center
Junior Extracirriculars:
Cosi medical program
Peer educator
Model Un
Nursing Home
During the summer:
Joyce scholar for Harvard summer school
Stats
Unweighted gpa: 3.8-3.9
Test score: 33 or higher
Freshamn year had a’s and b’s,
But sophmore, junior, and senior gets straight a’s
In honors classes: 9-10
College classes: 11-12
33+ is easier said than done. And this stuff is all projected. In addition, you didn’t provide a college you want to go to.
the freshman activites i am doing right now. My familys backgorund has been that case. But just judge it as if i was applying right now.
Harvard

Yeah, no offense, but don’t apply expecting to get in. No one should. It’s a crapshoot. No one can predict whether or nt someone will get into Harvard. Getting straight A’s is easier said than done.
I am aware of that but just give me some advice?
I guess your not fan of the chance threads.
you were right about it being a lottery. lol
People are more not fan of the ‘lets make up a bunch of stuff’ chances. Although Chances are overall ignored by much of the community. B students don’t often turn into A students but it can happen. Testing is something one has an off the charts ability or not but prepping and studying can help in some cases.
There is tons of advice given here in the existing threads you can read. But I would advise against it, you are better off spending the time reading a great book as that will prepare you better for top schools. Think in terms of ‘top schools’ rather than a specific school. If you don’t want to go to a school you never heard of that is fantastic, then you are doing everything for the wrong reasons.
i have have straight A’s this quarter
Actually there is a professor at Harvard that I really love. His name is Henry Louis gates Jr. I would love to take a class by him. I watch his movies and read his books. I follow Harvard’s blogs on YouTube. I really love their human evolutionary major. Those classes look very interesting. Considering i read books related to the topics they cover.
What you said about being naturally smart to get high scores on tests is not true.
My friend got a 14 on the act. She prepped really hard and got a 32 the second time
Given your background, you actually have a pretty decent chance. Work on making sure the GPA is 3.9+, and the ACT will matter a lot less. Are you also by any chance a first generation college student? Because then you are double hooked and you already have very good stuff to write about in your essays.
my dad never went to college, he dropped out of school in the 7th grade. . My mother is just now going to school. she is 32. but when she was 18 she was pregnant with me.
my aunt has went to college. but she is only my guardian, she didnt adopt me. If you know what i mean, but i have lived with her since i was three.
Children services said my mother was unfit to raise kids. Since she was constantly leaving me places. In plus i had to have surgrey on my kidney.
Your EC ideas are fine. Aim for As in all Honors/AP classes by Junior and Senior year and you’ll likely have a shot. You have good hooks that might help you but they can only get you so far. Try to get a 33+ on the ACT but realistically that’s hard to casually say that’s what your going to get without at least taking a practice test. It’s fine that your aiming for Harvard but you should brainstorm other places you want to go too. Generally you need a safety, a few reaches (Harvard is a reach for everyone even with a 4.0 in college level courses), a few matches etc. if Harvard is still your dream school by Junior year consider apply Early Action for slightly better odds.
1.Harvard
2.Columbia
3.Barnard
4.New york university
5. Boston university
and my safety is
ohio state unviersity
You’re a freshman, and you have a ton of time. Ivy league schools are ridiculously competitive, even if you pull of all of this (which I’m sure you can!). But if you do manage to do everything you’ve predicted, I’d say you’d get into Barnard, NYU (unless maybe you’re applying to Stern) and probably BU.
Also-congratulations on working so diligently! Not many freshmen are thinking about college. Stay driven and you can do anything you set your mind to.
Harvard, Columbia and Barnard have exellant financial aid.
The other ones do not. Thats one if the main reasons i am so centered around those.
Not the only reason, but one.
the extracirriculars that i put i already do them. And ive decided that im doing them for the rest of my high school career.
But you do have a good point. I am just paranoid. I have no stream of income to pay for college so i have to make sure im on the right track for college and scholarships.
