I find it kind of weird that there is no definete date to look to for decisions. or maybe i just havent found this information. does anyone know when we find out if we got in or now?

Last year, scholarship candidates found out pretty early that they got in... I think I got mine the last week of January? The rest of the letters slowly get sent out over the next few months. If you're dying to know the status of your application, you can always call the admissions office and they'll probably update you, "Your decision letter is in the mail and you should get it ___" or "We're still reviewing your application" etc. Good luck!

Yeah, I actually wasn't a scholarship candidate (or I could've been. Maybe my letter was lost in the mail), and I got my acceptance letter the first week of February. Some of my friends got theirs in April, but they were spring admits.

Yeah, it's wierd... not only do they not give you a definite date, they also don't send out all the letters at the same time. So if you follow this board (as I did), you'll likely begin to panic: other candidates will excitedly post that they've gotten in, and meanwhile, you won't have heard anything from the admissions office (at least this was the case with me).

Don't panic though, because my letter came somewhat later than a lot of others, and I was admitted (I didn't apply for scholarships). And I guess the benefit of their wierd system is that, when the letter finally does arrive, it comes with the added element of surprise, which makes it all the more exciting.

Best of luck to you and to all the USC Class of 2011 applicants. It's a phenomenal school.

yeah, i didn't hear from USC until the beginning of april...all my friends were accepted already, so I was sure that meant I got rejected, but, I didn't.

so don't get discouraged if it's really late and you still haven't found out yet...

I found out in the first batch January 28th. The first batch or two are scholarship candidates and then they keep sending out acceptance letters through early April. Kind of a pain. People at my school had it dragged out. I think it's nice because you can be pleasantly surprised. I know I was even though I didn't end up at SC.

can you still be a scholarship candidate if you receive your letter late? or is it pretty much that they send out all the scholarship candidates acceptance and then everyone else's letters?

Scholarship candidates always receive their letters early because they need to do interviews in (I think) March. If you receive a national merit scholarship (half-tuition), then you don't need to interview, so you don't necessarily get your letter early... Hope I helped

thanks. i've had so much anxiety about receiving a scholarship lately. i'm applying for engineering and i was told by a representative of the engineering department that each school gets a specific amount of scholarships to hand out and that viterbi has the most, even though it's got about 10% of the student body, so that got me excited until he told me that viterbi usually receives the highest qualified applicants. let's all just hold hands and pray.

I posted this in another thread, but after looking at all new USC threads, I saw this thread and realized that the info may be helpful to those of you monitoring this thread. Apologies for duplicate posting, but hope it may help those awaiting letters and decisions. Good luck to you all.

Our son's "Acceptance to USC" letter was dated January 26th. I don't recall the exact day that we received it, but it was within a few days of the 26th. The letter stating that he was selected as finalist for the Presidential Scholarship (meaning he qualified to go through the Interview process) was dated January 27th. He attended the Explore-USC (Interview) in early March. The letter stating that he was selected as a Presidential Scholar (meaning he will receive the scholarship) was dated March 24th. It all seems like a blur, how quickly it all occurred, looking back on it now.

Footnote: Interviews for "Trustee" Scholarships (100% tuition) took place prior to the interviews for "Presidential" Scholarships (50% tuition). Therefore, it is likely that the letters for Trustee go out earlier than the letters for Presidential Scholarship.

MOST Hawaii applicants are notified by the end of March, at the latest. This was because they had an admitted student's reception in Honolulu (with faculty flown from USC) on 4/1, so folks had to know whether or not they had been admitted to decide whether to attend. One of my son's friends wasn't notified until after the reception; he was not accepted. S & his friends who were accepted were notified by sometime in March or sooner. I have read of other applicants who were accepted in April or later to USC, so there is lots of variability.

My daughter received her acceptance packet on March 2nd. This seemed to be the "second wave" after the major scholarship recipients heard in late Jan. Others didn't find out until the beginning of April.
