I’m receiving around 12k in aid for SLO and am projected at around 16k for UCI… obviously it’s cheaper to go to SLO but I absolutely love the irvine area. I am business admin at SLO and business econ at UCI… anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

My son and I visited UCI and we loved the campus and the area too. There were no students there when we went, but the layout seems great! I don’t know anything about business admin or business econ. I think you need to see which school is better for those fields.

My son got into Irvine as well, but he is going to SLO for engineering. It is clearly a better school for that. Find out more about the programs. I am sure that both are great. UCI is larger and the population more diverse. that can certainly be a plus in business. I think you ca’t go wrong with either school.

Not much help…sorry! Good luck!

I don’t know about irvine’s population being more diverse. Its about as asian and cal poly is white. I’ve also been to both schools and my brother goes to Irvine. He likes it a lot

Dunno about the business programs

I’m not too sure about UCI’s undergraduate business program. But at cal poly, it was recently ranked #64 (#2 in CA after Berkeley) in undergraduate business programs.

You’re right—I’m reading right here in the UC booklet that UCI is 52.2% Asian and 23.4% white. Not too much in between.

Back in the '70s my dad used to live in Irvine not very far from UCI. It’s a planned community and not really a college town, per se. More of a commuter school than some of campuses. My dad’s neighborhood had that “Stepford Wife” look to it. Of course, it was all new and there were many young families with moms who spent all day at the little community pools strategically places around the neighborhood. All the houses were alike and everything just seemed so uniform and…and…PLANNED. Well, it was! They were so proud of UCI, though. He moved to Newport Beach shortly after that and has been there ever since. Not sure what their thoughts are on UCI anymore. I’m sure the demographics have changed since the '70s.

You are right about it being highly asian. I guess I meant more diverse because it is non-white. I think Cal Poly will be slowly changing to a more diverse poulation. I am not sure that UCI will change anytime soon. Both schools are excellent. It sounds like Cal Poly is ranked higher in business though. Keep us posted on your decision!

UCI’s undergrad business program is new, only two years old. Therefore it doesn’t appear in any ranking. You probably won’t see it ranked for a few more years. However, it has been offer Accounting Minor and Magnagement Minor for a while.

The curriculum of Business Admin and BusinessEcon is different. If your intension is to study in the “traditional” business program, you should look into both curriculum to see if BusinessEcon is what you want.
