So Confused and Frustrated.

The applicant pool for most colleges this year was certainly more competitive and large.
Aside from this fact, I don’t understand how I am getting rejected by schools with higher acceptance rates but getting accepted to selective ones??? I really don’t understand the admission process. What do colleges look for exactly???!

Well If you got into more selective schools and you like those schools you shouldn’t worry about it. I certainly don’t have a spotless record academically so I’m not surprised but I’ve been rejected by 14 schools already! I’ve also gotten into some great ones and I’m super excited about it. One I got into I thought would be rejection for sure as it has better stats than most of the schools that rejected me. Admissions is definitely unpredictable at selective colleges. Every college is different and it’s not that you are necessarily lacking anything. They build diverse classes and have way too many people to pick from. The process is very subjective and there’s no science or formula. Just be happy if you got into a great school that you want to go to. Also feel better because you likely didn’t get 14 rejections.

Schools care about their yield. If the school senses that a very strong candidate is just using them as a safety and the student has a low probability of matriculating, then the school will not waste an admit on that student and dilute its admission rate.

It’s like a dweeby guy being unwilling to ask the most popular girl to the prom.

I’m frustrated bc there are a few schools that i thought i would fit in really well and had a decent chance of acceptance but i just got flatout rejected. but anyway, haha i got rejected to like half of the schools i applied to…but good luck to you!

Search common data set (insert college name here) on google and you will find exactly what each college looks for.

That’s why you apply to a variety of schools, because most applicants are unlikely to get into some of there list. If you’re batting 500, that’s great. Enjoy the acceptances you do have.
