SO CONFUSED... help!

Ok I'm so confused by all this financial aid stuff... and I doubt my counselor knows any real answers... so yeah.

On the CommonApp, I indicated "Yes" to the box asking "Do you intend to apply for need-based financial aid?" for all of my schools. I believe this hurt my chances at schools that I got rejected/waitlisted from because I'm technically an intl student (I have Canadian citizenship but have lived in the US most of my life on a visa). So, I know that our adjusted gross income is $156,000, and I'm an only child. Based on this, is it worth it to apply for finaid, considering it decreases my chances of admittance as an intl student? Am I going to get much aid from schools?

And should I fill out FAFSA??

Thanks.

What type of visa are you here on? Only US citizens and permanent non citizens (such as green card holders) are eligible to complete FAFSA. If you are an international student it is likely you are not eligible for FAFSA. In which case ask your school(s) what the application process for aid is.

Though, to be honest, I would not expect you to qualify for much aid with an income of $156k.

We’re in the process of applying for permanent residency. I’m not sure what type of visa that is… ? If I’m not eligible for aid, what about student loans? I’m guessing this means I’m probably not eligible for FAFSA, though am I supposed to fill it out anyway for schools to use?

If you are not able to fill out a FAFSA (due to your residency status), you are NOT eligible for any federally funded financial aid…I believe. Federal financial aid money is not for international students and that is what you are considered UNTIL your status changes.
