SO... decisions are up...

Accepted!

4.04
1980 SAT
30 ACT
710/670 SAT II

^how??????

i think that for all of us who had far below average stats but still got accepted, the essay played a huge part. i also think that for those who had stellar stats, the essay is what prevented you from getting in. it just shows that UCLA has become conscious of "the whole person" and has steered away from giving acceptances to 4.3/2100 applicants.

Have any of you not gotten notice of admit/reject yet? One of my friends hasn't and she's worrying about this like crazy.

We're guessing she's borderline. Anyone know more info?

honestly....i think the UCLA admissions officers are on crack.....they reject students who have excellent credentials while admitting mediocre students.....oh well....it's UCLA's loss.........

As for me...I was rejected from UCLA last year (Fall 05) but was admitted to Berkeley for the double major of Electrical Engineering / Nuclear Engineering.....it's funny how UCLA has the "ballz" to reject an engineering student who Berkeley admitted. OH well......the cross admit battle between UCLA and CAL always benefits CAL (especially Engineering). No one wants to go to a engineering schoool where it is ranked 25th in the nation.....Berkeley...I am glad that you have admitted me (#3 in engineering). Like I said....UCLA admission officers are on "crack".....they always end up admitting lower caliber students and denying admission to high caliber students (maybe UCLA knows that those students will most likely end up marticulating up @ CAL).

This is so ridiculous. The only reason I could possibly think for this sort of a reply is that you're bitter that you didnt get in. If you had gotten in, this would be an entirely different story. You can't say any of these people who were rejected were actually "better" than the people they accepted because you simply were not there to read and thoroughly evaluate an applicant. You didn't read their essays. Smart and being qualified does not necessarily have to be presented through SAT scores. It was a three hour test and it means nothing. It's not UCLA's lost-- they've admited excellent students...and its success can guarantee this

UCB actually lets you double major in engineering?

is majoring in L&S easier to get into UCLA or Engineering?

L&S, for sure.

Here's something interesting that happened to someone I know. He came to the U.S. from Korea not long ago, and he had very low hopes for his college acceptances. His stats were:

550 (CR) + 550 (W) + 800 (M) = 1900 SAT
Low GPA
Unexceptional extracurriculars
Broken English reading/writing

He was rejected from CSULB, UCR, and UCI.

Accepted to Cal Poly SLO and UCLA.

Got in
4.00/4.69
1/173
sat:2400
sat2:800/800/780/780/700

i'm yet another one you can add to the list with (comparatively) low SAT and high gpa/great essays. thank goodness UCLA values the person over the test score.

are you implying that people with good scores who didn't get in were somehow "less of a person?"

I think that we should remember that the people who posted acceptances on College Confidential are not representative of the entire UCLA acceptance pool. So even though there are many with low GPA and/or test scores / extracurricular activites, there are also many many more with excellent GPAs and test scores + ec's. =)

But Congratulations to everyone!

Daughter accepted with UC 4.0 GPA, 2120, good EC's in creative writing. Was in top 10% of competitive public high school. Accepted to UCI Honors program, too.

"As for me...I was rejected from UCLA last year (Fall 05) but was admitted to Berkeley for the double major of Electrical Engineering / Nuclear Engineering.....it's funny how UCLA has the "ballz" to reject an engineering student who Berkeley admitted. "

Could you please share your stats for getting accepted in Berkeley EECS/NucE double major?

I still haven't received my decision yet... but they can take their time.
