Hi all,

I was admitted as a transfer student in April. When I got it I was so incredibly stoked. I signed up for my classes yesterday after speaking with a counselor. Wow, what a rollercoaster this has been...

I am an econ major as of now but want to transfer into the business school. After speaking with my counselor, I was told that I ONLY have four semesters to complete my pre requisite courses and all major classes... This means I have to take like 5 classes and get over a 3.5 GPA to get accepted into the b school.

I asked if I could take a year to complete prerequisite courses. The answer.. no. I was told the business major takes three semesters to complete. Fine, but what if it takes two semesters to get in.

On top of that, trying to reach anyone at UNC is like trying to call Bill Gates at Microsoft. I am constantly transfered to others where the line rings, rings, and rings.

Sorry for the ranting, I've just been vert disappointed with UNC thus far. Especially since I turned down countless UC's, richomond, and Wake forest.

Any advice for me guys?

What do I do to get into the b school?

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend speaking to UNC advisors about this. I’ve been having the same problem, but I choose to do my own research and contact officials at the school (public health, in my case).

Nobody really likes advising here, but everything else is a lot better once you get past dealing with them. As far as the b school goes, everybody is advised to have a back up plan if they don’t get in. You shouldn’t transfer on the assumption that you will get in. You can petition to stay an extra semester if you need to and I’ve heard they’re pretty good about it.

Also, seriously look into the entrepreneurship minor. I think it’s a great option for people with an entrepreneurial spirit but for whom the business school isn’t an option or an interest. It’s a fantastic and low maintenance minor.

I have noticed the same problem i am limited to 5 semesters. That limit is the most stupid thing i ever heard of…

You need to talk to advisors in the business school and not regular college advisors. They rarely know what’s actually happening in the business school. As a business transfer I can assure you that they gave me the option of taking an extra semester to graduate.
