Im in TAP, but I am currently going to get an F in one of my major pre-req classes. My counselor said as long as I retake the class and pass before I transfer then there isnt really a problem and it wont affect the decision making process (bec. even if they see an F, they'll see im re-taking the class) is this true!?!

thats not true. TAP doesn’t garuntee admission, and an F is an F it will effect ur app, but if you can try to explain it in teh third part of ur personal statement, and hopefully that will help. The fact that it is a major pre-req also hurts, but hopefully you still get in!

What class? How could you fail a ccc class?!

LOL @ Cupertinotransfr, kinda f-ucked up tho hahah…why is it that u didnt drop the class jvn098? =/

@ Cupertinotransfr

Many people fail classes at ccc…

Unfortunately, your counselor is not entirely correct. Getting an F in a major pre-req does not look good and even if you do retake it this semester, they are still going to acknowledge the F when making their decisions. You still have a shot of getting into some of the schools you applied to. Best of luck!

i had no choice but to fail it because something came up and i had to leave the country. i couldnt finish this course and i passed the drop date :(

talk to the teacher about getting an incomplete instead. If you have a documented emergency that required leaving the country and Incomplete is the way to go

Cupertino your post better be a joke.

The OP didn’t say which class it even was. Don’t assume he failed English 1 or something. It could’ve easily been Calculus III or a high level physics or chemistry class.

And even if it was English 1, I’m fairly sure hes not sharing the F for the wow factor. Hes looking for advice and help.

:-) LOL I kid, sorry OP.

^it actually WAS an ENGLISH class that he failed, NOT an advanced class like Calc 3

The OP is clearly not being truthful with us about the F. If he really had an emergency and had to leave the country, then there should be no reason the school wouldn’t grant him an incomplete. Unless, he was already failing the class and had no way of documenting his “emergency”.

Yeah, he’s a communications/english/media studies major…not exactly rigorous coursework. In general, you pretty much have to be an idiot to fail a class. Failing at CC takes it to a different level. And failing in stupid, cake classes like english, communications, and media studies takes it even further.

Alright guys, so he failed an English class, not a class such as Computer Science, Calc 3, physics, or whatever, but we should just help him to the best of our ability, not make fun of him.

i agree with UChopeful2010, schools do grant leeway in case of an emergency, i know a girl who dropped Calc II on the last day of school, because of a faily emergency. The school let her take a W, becuz of it

@ anonymousername

Why be an ass?

FYI, OP is an english major. not a communications major. huge difference. communications is by far the hardest major to transfer into at ucla

Even more so than biz econ? I thought that was the most impacted major, requiring a 3.9 gpa to be competitive.

i haven’t checked, but i think biz econ was 13% and communications was 9% transfer rate. for communications, a 3.9 is REQUIRED for consideration (unofficially of course, although they claim they look at all applicants)
