My original plan was to take both and then retake the one I do better on, but that seems like a waste of time and money when I could just study for one.

My PSAT scores in freshmen/sophomore years were 180 and 182. I just took an ACT for the first time ever (in a practice book) and got a 31. I like the ACT's format much better.

Is someone on the east coast like... obligated to take the SAT? I don't mean obligated like that, but like... you are expected to?

***I'll wait and see what I get on the PSAT this year before deciding though.

If you look back at when these companies began administering these tests, you’d see that the ACT worked from the middle of the country to the east and west costs, whereas the SAT found itself more prominently on the costs going towards the middle of the country. It’s really nothing more than that.

Most (if not all) colleges in the US will accept either ACT or SAT scores. Personally, I decided to take both tests. Living in Louisiana, there are not that many people taking the SAT, but I decided to take it just to see if I would do better because of the different formats.

It’s really up to you. No one’s going to shun you for living on the coast and not taking the popular test.
