One of the TAG requirements is to complete IGETC. I am an Engineering major transfer and what i would like to know is if is it compulsory for me to complete IGETC for TAG ( even though at assist.org says that doing/following IGETC is not recommended)

But there is one more thing which is bothering me is that i heard that the engineering majors only have to complete only a selected GE courses when they get into a univ. if this is true then why for TAG, i have to complete IGETC , i mean be IGETC certified

Yes you are required to finish IGETC even for TAG (assuming you’re speaking of UCSD because there IGETC and TAG go hand-in-hand). So there’s your dilemma, if you want guaranteed admission you need to finish the extra classes for IGETC.

At UCSD your GEs are dictated by the college you are accepted to, not your major.

I did IGETC as an engineering major though and I am pretty sure that it made me more ‘attractive’ then the next eng. applicant when I applied (accepted everywhere).

won’t it take longer for engineers to transfer by trying to get igetc done?

^
Yeah, it will. That’s why it’s not recommended to do. Talk to a Transfer Counselor and see what they help you with. Maybe the best alternative is just not to do the TAG and get everything that you need to do! (I would think that’s most important). But as Experiment8, completing all the classes for IGETC can be a plus…so it’s really up to you!

Good luck!

It would be better if one jsut completes his/her prereqs and then apply for the desired UC …if one gets in then ,wooo hoo no IGETC … if one doesnt , boo hoo complete IGETC and get a TAG

BUMP!??

wat r ur thoughts about it ,guys

If you’re going to do IGETC just get it done from the start with the rest of your prereqs. The extra classes will pad your gpa and will be a welcome relief from all the science/math classes you have to take.
