Hey,
I was wondering if Cornell is known for awarding substantial financial aid packages. I was sent a likely letter, so I'm really anxious about receiving my aid award. I'm really scared that I might not be able to go, since Wellesley is making my family pay over $25,000 a year, and they were even generous with that figure. So I'm guessing that Cornell might hit me with a comparable figure. Also, if anyone can tell me about Cornell English, I'd really appreciate it. How difficult is it? Are students able to study in top grad programs after Cornell? I've been hearing a lot about Cornell's grade deflation and it's beginning to worry me.
Thanks!

All I know is that Cornell isn't generous to the middle class. I found out via from the old CollegeConfidential board... Present your FA packages to Cornell / Wellesley and they'll probably negotiate a heftier deal.

Cornell was very very generous to my middle class family.

ericng,
can you do that? Tell the colleges you're considering of your fin aid at each, so you can negotiate a better deal? That would be so freaking sweet if you could!

Cornell will end up making your family pay less because they'll slap you with $10,000 a year in loans.

yes you can do that (fight for better packaging... if I get rejected from Cornell... which I'm planning on at this point, I might compare Tulane with Brandeis to try and squeeze mroe money out of Brandeis)... but often they'll make the difference up in loans...
