So Excited...Award Letter

I am so excited, my daughter received her Financial Award Package from Ohio State. She has been "awarded" a sub and unsub loan package valued up to $6500. Yay for her. I am so happy. Oh and our Parent Plus eligibility is $18,416.

Yes, I know I sound bitter (maybe because I am LOL). She will be a sophomore in college next year. This year we were fortunate that she got some scholarships through her high school that ended up being around $6,000 all together but they were all one time payouts. And because of these, her Sub loans were all switched to unsub loans for her freshman year.

She tried for scholarships this year but did not receive any. She has made the dean's list for the Autumn and Winter Quarter and is doing great at school.

Just needed to vent a little. Thanks for anyone taking the time to read this. Hope you all have a great day.

You don’t need to take out the full Plus loan, they always overestimate those things. How much is tuition?

Nice “awards” there, but nothing like what Columbia College Chicago “offered” Happykid: $6500 in sub and unsub and $33000 in Parent Plus. Thank heaven she was already well attached to her in-state public U, and we already knew to expect little from Columbia College.

I am so glad that she did the Community College route. We only have to really pinch and scrape for two years.

Honestly that’s why my fairly high stat son is not enrolling in OSU next year. Tuition is lower than privates, but merit aid is pitiful for instates. Room and board are unreasonable considering what you get. He got enough merit aid from a private to essentially match what it would cost us at OSU and he won’t have to fight to be first in line to get housing, classes, he can play a varsity sport, etc. They also answer their phones when you call, not put you on hold for 20 mins like OSU.

That does seem high for room & board. How is off campus housing? My D has been living off campus since sophomore year. We probably pay the same, but she has more room & a garden, & stays there summers.

Those “one time payout awards” are nice to get, but when they “go away” it sure can be painful. :(
