So far I have gotten mail from 129 colleges and altogether it weighs 30.3 pounds

Wow... I kind of wish I got that much mail from colleges but I'm also glad that I don't have to deal with so much stuff from colleges I don't even want to go to.

xD Don't feel lame. I took the PSAT as a sophomore and checked the box for mail. Now I regret it. xD I haven't looked at the piles [literally piles] of mail since the summer after sophomore year and almost NONE of it has helped me in my college search at all.

If you want information from colleges you can request it from colleges you're interested in. Also, I think I got quite a bit by filling out cards at a college fair I went to. ^^

i really hate all the useless junk they send, coming from obscure colleges i have never heard of nor plan to attend
but some look interesting lol

op "you want a cookie"? jk

nyc sends alot of stuff out i am not even really conservative but all the liberalism would give me a headache

when i recieve those mails i just look at it and the name of the school then i throw it into the trash bin. unless its a mail from a school im applying to. but i get usually stupid schools sending me mail..

We've been tracking the weight of college recruitment mail for DS1...sophomore year he got 24 lbs. of mail.

Last night we did the final weigh-in for junior year -- 54 lbs. Insane. Twenty pounds have been in the the last six weeks as all the viewbooks are coming in. This year's haul was 46.15% of his body weight. This doesn't even count the weight of all the emails if we were to print them out. We haven't tracked the number of schools, but it seems like we've heard from everyone except fundamentalist religious schools.

78 lbs. so far -- which DS1 reports is 2/3 of his body weight. Can hardly wait to see what senior year brings.

If DS2 gets 46% of his weight in college mail, we'll be in big trouble. He's a 6'3" sophomore varsity defensive tackle.

Frequent tree cutters: WashU, Gettysburg, Drexel, RIT, Hampden-Sydney, Miami/FL, Miami/OH, Grinnell.

I'm going to check the box for "send me college info" on the PSAT because I like getting mail. :)

College junk mail is more fun than getting bills...

CountingDown you should have your son be in ESPN's college recruiting site if he wants to play football in college. also make him attend combines however it will prob. be very hard since a DT is a popular position..

Haha, I'm an intl. soph and I haven't signed up for any mailing list/taken any standardized test.

Do ACT test takers also receive mail?

I started getting stuff Freshman year, way before I even thought about taking the SAT/ACT.

It's weird...I don't get mail from a ton of different schools, but the schools that do send me stuff send me a TON. Like I know I've been getting stuff since I was a freshman from Drexel, U of Miami, TCU, St. Mary's, UC Boulder, Westmont...there's a few more that I just can't remember right now.

Most of it just ends up in the trash because I don't actually want to go to any of those schools.

It's weird though, I also get a ton of e-mail from them. And I just kinda glance at it and then delete it.

i didn't get mail until after i took PSATs, but after that....yikes. i've saved everything just to see how much i end up with. WUSTL and uchicago won't stop sending me things!

Yeah, WUSTL sends me so much stuff! And so does Kenyon. Ah, well, both of them could potentially be on the list, heehee.

And I like reading viewbooks. Is anybody like me and actually reads every single piece of mail they get from cover to cover? Or am I just a freak?

^Tako- I was like that.
Until I got to the 8th or 9th viewbook.
They pretty much all say the exact same thing on them.

You know those milk crates? The big plastic boxes that they deliver milk cartons in? I have two of those, overflowing with spam. And those are the colleges I'm not even considering. I can't imagine how much it weighs....shudder

I like college mail. I like mail in general. It doesn't really matter if I read it or not. It's just fun to glance at and throw in a box.

Although it's really sad how much paper is going to waste. But then again, I'd be po'd if it was going into my email box.

Yeah... they make good burning... keeps the backup generator going.

I threw away all the college mail I've had stowed away for the past two years this week. (Drat, didn't think to weigh it!) I just kept a couple viewbooks I thought were especially pretty. :P

haha...I threw all mine out, when I finally decided on my short list of colleges...which was a full garbage can....(the recycling plant here only takes newspaper, no glossy print :( )

think about how many trees they kill each year on this stuff :P
