Good luck!

Nice teachers? Do you guys think it will be a good year?

Good luck!

I’ve only got two teachers this year, but they seem nice enough. It’s my senior year, so it’s going to be rough, but I’m taking some interesting classes like Differential Equations (unexpectedly awesome), Astronomy (expectedly awesome), Game Theory (hopefully awesome), and Linguistics (possibly awesome).

I am very happy, I have no “bad” teachers and I have heard my math teacher is rather easy (which is helpful given I lack math skills currently)

Latin should be fun, our teacher is chill

5 study halls (it is recommended, given most people slack off Freshman year I REALLY want a 4.0)

Block schedule, so I have every class 4 times a week other than science (and gym)

i love my classes & teachers overall, although my classmates are iffy 3rd block and i hate everything about my 8th block.

i might drop out of 8th, idk yet.

At first, I really didn’t like Geometry, but then I got a schedule change, and now I especially don’t like Geometry. I just don’t like the kids in my class. AP Human Geo is okay, it’s really easy. But I don’t feel like I’m actually learning anything, and the class is surprisingly mainly upperclassmen. I was in Computer Apps for a week, and I kind of liked it. I really liked the teacher, but I didn’t like the people in the class and I just felt out of place. I’m taking Piano instead now, and it’s REALLY easy. The teacher is really cool too But it’s all just independent practice, and my back really hurts after a while >_< Biology is so easy (not honors) and I really wish I were in honors. But I kind of like feeling like an average student. The teacher is really nice. French… First off, I wish I could be in French 2, but my old school didn’t have French… The teacher is pretty bad, and the kids always make fun of her during class but she doesn’t notice. I feel bad for her. But there are 8 people from my old school in that class, so at least I actually know people in it. I hate going to English every day. The teacher is really cool, but the class has way too many students, and they get loud often. I especially won’t like English this year because it’s a lot of literature and I don’t like analyzing books. Algebra 2 is my favorite class of the day because of the awesome teacher and the students who actually want to learn. It’s my hardest class, though.

Socially, I’m not sure if I’m doing better in high school. I don’t know anyone, and I honestly just want to learn. Also, my best friend moved to Wisconsin for priest school, so I feel kind of lonely sometimes. I’m joining a few clubs though, so hopefully I’ll make some friends? :/

I really have no idea how the year is going to be. I got a C- on my first AP Human Geo test (I fell asleep when I got home and had no time to study, which I realize is completely my fault) and a B on my first Algebra test (silly mistakes >_<) and I’m really starting to get worried. I’ve just been thinking about graduating early, or being homeschooled while taking a few classes at the high school. Not because of the grades I’m getting, but because of the social environment. Also, at least if I’m homeschooled, I won’t be drowning in homework, since most of the homework I get now is just busywork. I’ll also be able to go at my own pace and choose what I get to learn. And if I graduate early, that’s just one less year of having to go to high school I really just don’t look forward to going school like I did in the summer. Summer school was perfect, with my fun classes and the weather and the people I met. At least I can look forward to that next year :)

High school so far has been awesome. I had a few setbacks but then I realized not to stress and just go with the flow. @LosingCrayon that is my advice for you. Go with the flow. A year ago my best friend left to another school and I was so lonely. I even ate in the bathroom. But I got some courage and started talking to people. Now in high school I look for the people in my class that really want to learn and have a great attitude and I talk to them and hang out with them. Right now, I’m just trying to go with the flow. Your situation will change. It’s practically impossible not to make a friend in high school unless you really try. So just be nice to everyone and focus on your grades and you’ll find someone. If there’s no one to hang out with just chill in the library and read a book. Just go with the flow and stress on your schooleork

Well, I’m already sleep-deprived and managed to get in a fight with a teacher, so that’s great.

I’m not even going to sugar-coat it. I’m just waiting for my diploma next year lol

@SippingCoffee It’s just one class Don’t let that single teacher ruin your entire senior year. Really, it’s the last time you get to be a kid As for the sleep deprivation, I guess try doing your homework during your easy classes? :)

@LosingCrayon Haha thanks and sorry that might’ve been misleading but I’m actually a junior… and I forced the administration to switch me out of that teacher’s class ^:)^ so things are looking better! And I’m sorry to hear about your social situation… I’m sure you’ll find friends – it’s high school, there are sooo many different kids and you’re bound to find someone that you can relate to good luck

@SippingCoffee I feel you on the whole can’t wait to get my diploma next year theng. Junior year is just so stressful so far

@DiscipulusBonus what kind of dream high school do you go to? our math goes up to calc bc and our english is restricted to the AP courses and the most exciting science offered is forensics which is a class for slackers unfortunately and here you are with diff equations and linguistics and astronomy

I’m taking a class called Logical Reasoning, and it’s so fun. We make fun of Spongebob because of his underwater fires. It’s just logic basically.

@lanflan He’s homeschooled :)

My first day didn’t start off great… I have the CRAZIEST Bio teacher! AT LEAST an hour of homework EVERY NIGHT (even on 3 day weekends we get extra homework… not to mention I hate almost everyone in the class…Not only is it 1st period, but at my school all science classes meet for 2 periods/blocks 2 days a week! So instead of having it 5 times a week I have it 7. Did I mention this isn’t AP its only Honors ;( So that’s how that started…

English is filled with kids who shouldn’t be taking Pre-AP but are anyway sigh

I love Chinese (It’s honors and the teacher (laoshi) picked me to be the class TA even though I’m a sophomore and there are plenty of juniors and seniors…It does pay well to do well in a class…! (I did extremely well in Chinese 1, so this year in Honors Chinese 2 I guess I have a bit of a reputation) although I think most of the kids in my class are starting to resent my brilliance…I guess they don’t realize how much time I put into studying! Looking smart in class only happens when you study your a$$ off at home the night before!!

I’m in Standard Algebra II, I had my heart set on switching out to Honors, but the teacher is a dream!! Now I think I will stay…but I’m still unsure.

American Gov. I know no one. Teacher is cool. I’m a LOT better at memorizing terms than understanding concepts. This class is full of concepts. Still unsure of how it will go…

Honors Spanish 3! I didn’t take spanish last year so I am very far behind. It’s just me and a sea of freshmen. At lease I get to be the cool sophomore, this class will take a ton of extra studying to catch up though!! The teach is super cool, unfortunately she is just a sub and will leave in a month ;(

Latin 1, chill teacher, as all Latin teachers should be. I will do well in this class. Very nice way to end the day.

So overall my day starts out super stressful and the I decompress as the day goes on.

After school I am on JV Volleyball and am Co-Captain of Yearbook (yay!)
This year will be lots of work!!

@lanflan: I’m homeschooled:

• Differential Equations is a dual enrollment course at a local community college.

• Astronomy is a combination of self-studying textbooks, MIT OCW classes, and Coursera Caltech classes.

• Game Theory is a combination of MIT OCW classes and Coursera Stanford classes.

• The resources for Linguistics have yet to be determined. It’s a second semester class, though.

Well it’s been 2 and a half weeks but here’s how it is so far:

Acc.Pre-Calc- Same teacher as last year, daily homework at least an hour a day for me (I’m pretty slow at math homework) The people in the class seem nice enough, it’s half sophomores and half juniors.

AP Chemistry- We took our first test and I got a 92% which is ok but I would’ve got 100% if I would have taken the time to check my answers. Not very much homework, maybe 2-3 hours a week.

Spanish 2- Easy as expected, teacher seems nice but gives a grade for participation…hopefully it won’t affect my grade too much

PE- Even worse than I thought it’d be. The class itself is easy but it’s 4th period and it’s really hot and the people in my class are annoying and don’t even try.

AP English Language- We’ve have a substitute since our real teacher injured her wrist and we haven’t really done anything. Well we have written a response essay thing but I like English classes where we get to read a lot of books and I see that other AP English classes are already reading books and it’s not fair that we don’t get to read any. Last year we read ten books and I liked that a lot.

AP World History- My favorite class so far even though there’s at least 1 hour of homework a day, most times more than an hour. The teacher makes the class very exciting.

@DiscipulusBonus well nonetheless you officially make me want to be homeschooled! expect me checking back in 6 months to see how your linguistic class is going-I’m thinking about that as a major but want to know what the classes are actually like :)

@lanflan: Sure thing! I actually got interested in linguistics a few years ago because of some survey courses I took in German, Mandarin, French, Russian, Latin, and Greek, and I recently discovered a book at the MIT Press bookstore (if you ever visit MIT, this place is worth a visit) that prompted me to take the class. FYI, I’ll probably be taking some resources from <a href=“Search | MIT OpenCourseWare | Free Online Course Materials”>http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/linguistics-and-philosophy/, and I might study some NLP on Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/course/nlp).

EDIT: I have no idea why CC blocks Coursera links, but you can probably figure out what goes in the place of the asterisks.

thank you so much @DiscipulusBonus ! I will make sure to check out those resources! And wow, taking courses in so many languages sounds amazing! and yah, I think I can fill in those blanks ;)

AP world history is hell, the teacher is great but the class is boring and I get 2 hours of homework every night
My other hard class is Honors Spanish3 I have resorted to talking to my spanish speaking friends only in spanish because otherwise I’ll fail
Ap human geography is easy although I have a Test tomorrow so well see how that goes
English2 is the worst I seriously want to kill myself every time I walk in there too many kids, my assigned seat sucks, and the teacher is a conceited lil poopstick
