First few days??? I’ve been in school for a month. :(( There have been so many changes made, yet some things haven’t changed at all. We now have year long grading instead of semesters and no senior lunches. The people on our homecoming court are the same ones that have been on there since freshman year. I’ve somehow got a lower grade in forensics (and yes @lanflan it IS a class for slackers lol, lame elective I wish I hadn’t taken) than I do in AP Chem. My math teacher grades the homework (??? do other people’s teachers do this? mine never have) for ACCURACY (???) And my AP Government teacher likes to give pop quizzes over the chapters we haven’t read yet. Yay school

AP Physics is consistently giving me 2 hours of homework because the teacher doesn’t explain the uses of the formulas. :[

The teacher that I was going to have for three of my classes (AP Calculus AB, AP Computer Science, DE Networking Fundamentals) is gone indefinitely. This is why I was switched into online AP Computer Science, and part of why I am now in Honors Calculus. (My parents didn’t want me to take AP Calculus AB online, so now I’m stuck in honors and I have to self-study for the AP test.) Along with that, Spanish 3 Honors didn’t fit into my schedule, so instead I’m taking Latin 2. The only classes that weren’t messed up are AP United States History, AP English Language and Composition, and AP Chemistry. Another issue that I had was the fact that hardly anyone showed up to the first Beta Club meeting, and the sponsor is really disorganized and hard to work with. I’m the president, so that’s kind of a problem. On top of that, I currently have no idea what I’m doing for science fair, which is starting to make me freak out since I really want to go to ISEF before I graduate.

But it’s okay. I’m optimistic about this year, honestly. I really love my chemistry class, and the first SECME meeting is this Friday. (I’m president of that as well.) I know things didn’t work out with my original science fair ideas, but I’m thinking about doing something in bioinformatics. I’ll be pretty busy, but hey, that’s junior year.

Piano: This is the easiest class. It’s all independent practicing since everyone’s at different levels. You just sit at your keyboard and play with your headphones on, and every week there are scales tests. There’s no homework since most people don’t have pianos/keyboard at their homes and really all we do is the scales tests anyway.

AP Human Geography: There are more upperclassmen than underclassmen in the class, which is weird because it was almost all freshmen last year. All we do is take notes word for word from the powerpoints he makes, and on Fridays we watch some kind of movie that we write a paragraph on for “FRQ practice.” You have to read the book though because if you don’t you won’t understand anything and it will all just seem like memorization. That’s why I like the essays, because they force you to read the book for more information, and you have to write an essay in the first place which makes you understand it. There’s a worksheet every night for homework (except for Fridays, we write a paragraph) and it’s just vocab, a few basic questions (half of them are usually defining a term), and sometimes a five sentence essay.

Honors Geometry: I miss having this class first period, I know almost no one in this class now. But at least it’s pretty easy so far I don’t like memorizing postulates but besides that it’s just common sense. If I ever forget to do my Algebra homework I just do it in this class since it’s still math and no one notices xD There’s homework pretty much every day, but there’s a lot of it.

Lunch: Well this isn’t a full period, but it’s at 10:31 most days which is pretty early but I’m usually hungry by then anyway. I have small group of friends I sit with, but that’s mainly because I went to the same school as them last year.

Biology: So easy, but I wish I were in honors. I do homework in this class as well xD All of our notes are “guided notes” where she prints out exact quotes from the powerpoints she makes, except there are fill in the blank parts. I actually know some people in this class though so that’s good If there’s ever homework, usually I just finish it in class, but there’s usually no homework.

French 1: The class is still easy, but unorganized (like most foreign languages I guess?) I don’t like the textbook since it’s pretty much just memorizing phrases. I want to actually understand the grammar. The teacher is a native Spanish speaker (who also teaches Spanish and German) so I always have to ask my dad for help with pronunciation. There’s almost no homework.

Honors English 9: I don’t really like this class. I really liked English last year, but that’s because it was mainly grammar. Now we have to analyze literature and I’m just not good at that. This class is also so overcrowded there are 36 kids in it. I only know one person, too. But I kind of know a few other people? For the most part there isn’t a lot of homework, but there’s a lot of reports and projects.

Honors Algebra 2: I look forward to going to this class every day The teacher is really into what he teaches and makes the class exciting There’s only one other freshman, but we’re friends now. I still feel like I don’t belong, but the sophomores have stopped questioning my presence I never end up finishing the tests and quizzes because I’m a slow worker, and usually you can’t use calculators on tests. When he does let us use calculators they’re basic 4 function ones that for some reason smell like maple syrup to me. Either sophomores are a lot more mature or a lot less people from Honors Geometry take this class, since they’re always quiet and pay attention, whereas in Honors Geometry everyone acts the exact opposite. There’s homework every night except for quiz and test days, and it can be pretty long. One time it took me 2 and a half hours, but I’m a slow worker and I’m especially bad at inequalities.
