So for the essays...

For the commonapp and all supplemental essays:

Should we double space? 1.5 space? Single space?

Specifically, my common app essay uses some dialogue thats 2 lines at most, 1 line sometimes - wouldn't it look bad to double space this?

single space.

Yeah, single space. You can separate paragraphs with extra newlines if you want, but double spacing (or 1.5 spacing) an essay of this sort is unorthodox and probably not the best choice stylistically.

Ok thanks, follow up question: is it okay if I don't use indentations? I generally just don't like to indent my essays, as I think it makes it look nicer. Anyone comment?

Wait, are you talking about the space provided in the Writing Samples portion or an uploaded document? I chose to upload my document and felt that double spacing looked much better.

double spacing is for an English paper when your teacher needs to give you comment. It does not apply to college essay. Single space is enough.

I don't know anything about this stuff, but I 1.5 spaced mine. It didn't make it as long as double spaced would have, but I wanted to make it easier to read.

should i indent my paragraphs or no?

If you're going to have to type it into a text box, single space. If you're uploading a document, then use double space.

Anyone know the answer to mets's indenting question? I'm wondering too.

these decisions are really up to you guys. if you're not going to indent, just make sure there is a blank line between paragraphs. it will look like a big mess if there isn't.

i did 1.5. on my supplements. easier to read but still within a page.

I indented on my uploaded files.

uchicago had to be in the box, so i separated paragraphs with space. no indent.
