So Happy About Sat Writing

Well needless to say, my SATS weren't up to par with what I had hoped back in June (not even 2100). However, the October SATS were so much easier....especcially the reading and writing. The essay's topic is the EXACT same as my college essay so I just used an exact paragraph from my college essay. I was so lucky. Anyways, what did you guys think of writing and reading (especcially)... I just want to know for curving purposes. Thanks!

lets talk about the essay. what prompt did you have? i had: "can humans ever be truly original?"

yea i had the same essay prompt...
i said yes and no.. depends on the person's definition of original because u can say somethings are more original than others but they aren't really original...
everything accedes to evolution...
everything comes from something before.. so bascially i used teh discovery of DNA (not Watson/Crick.. help of Rosalind Franklin... and many others)... and Calculus (Newton/Leibnez/Chinese mathematicans who didn't publish their work...)
originality cannot exist unless u are a complete hermit... cuz interaction with others make us become like others..
anyways how did u guys answer the prompt???

unless you are an extremely skilled writer, you should choose only one side to argue

i chose that no one can be truly original

I chose only one side but I recognized the other side... basically i said originality is unreachable... but i agreed that originality was like Absolute zero cuz it cannot be reached but can get close...
u can't really argue on both sides but choose one and then acknowledge that there is the other side but show how the other side is trivial compared to your contention...

I said that no one can be truly original and then talked about archetypes. do you think this will be okay?

me too.

and t151848p, i used watson and crick too, lol.

my other examples were christopher columbus, and charles darwin. hopefully i got 10+. i filled up both pages.

Perfect examples for any originality essay would be the Transcendentalist movement, did anyone do that?

i took the sat for first time yo... my essay wasnt even 1 page.. my prompt was "Is identity recieved or created?" nd i wrote that it is created... i gave examples of Odysseus and how his leadership created his identity as a true soldier.. and Carlos Rueda from Imagining Argentina.... mine probably sucked =[

lol andreaa... i used Charles Darwin and his idea of evolution too....
origins of the species.. there cannot be an original....
i used both pages too!!
i hope we get good scores...

lol, great minds think alike, i guess.

and we are so unoriginal. how ironic, haha.

yea, my prompt is also "is identity received or created"
I used 3 examples: Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Michael Vick.
I praised all three of them: Carnegie and Rockefeller from "rags to riches".
Michael Vick from a poor child to big football star.
Maybe I shouldn't use and praise Vick since he was involved in that dog fight incident. I hope the grader won't hold any prejuidice against that.

i had the identity prompt too. i was like omg america and it created a identity of a powerful nation would be perfect so i wrote about it. then i wrote about blacks and their creation of a new identity. THEN i realized that America wasnt "people" lol

hey is ur score dependent on ur evidence. Cause my evidence was basically Adam smith's original thought and some authors unique and original writing style. ANd i said both were original and still studied today! and i had a good flow of ideas. And i said YES and made it clear that people can be original.

your evidence can be quite nonfactual and the readers apparently
will not mark you down for it...he he :D

i got a bad essay question.
should celebrities be admired as much as heroes.........

i got that one too, and I mentioned how in Lorca's play House of Bernarda Alba, Adela is tragically heroic, cuz her freedom of expression is being stifled by her despotic mother, and I also used Martin Luther King, and how he is a heroic figure whose example propels us to rise against all odds and combat what one's social context may dictate. So my conclusion was that maybe we should re-evaluate what is deemed as important in a paragon today, that is external appearance over internal content.

i used the lion king, hamlet, and oedipus rex.

I took it internationally and I got the heroes prompt as well -- I am kinda surprised to hear that people got it in the US at normal times as well. I'm on exchange in Germany, we're 7 hours ahead and I could've easily called my friend back home who was also taking it and told her to look out for a heroes prompt. I don't understand how SAT stops this kind of behavior ...

Haha, I mentioned good ole MLK Jr also. I also mentioned Mel Gibson and his anti-Semitism. I thought it was good at the time but now I'm thinking I wasn't focused enough. Oh well.

^That's why they tell you that you can't discuss the essay prompts or the questions until they're published.

I'll refrain from saying which one I got, though it has been listed above. Mine was a page and 2/3, and I'm really hoping that was long enough, especially only having 4 paragraphs. I thought my examples were stellar, though, so hopefully that will cut the mustard.
