I'm a 17 year old Senior in highschool who has never cared about grades until now. I've always had a hard time relating how school before college will help me at all in the real world, so instead I just barely go through every grade and focused instead on actual real life things.
When I was 16 I started a business that I closed down after a year in hopes of starting something new. I'm opening a country-wide real estate business that's already fully funded. I've been successful in the stock market for years, and I've apprenticed at a bunch of high performance car shops to get some extra knowledge. I've done freelance graphic design and coding for websites, so I think I'm just selectively lazy. If I don't see it as helpful towards me in ANY way, I just dont care. Yeah, its a personal problem.

Anyway, because of this, I have a GPA of 2.07. I've been studying for the SAT for weeks hoping to get a perfect math score. I'm in Florida and I want to get a major for mechanical engineering, but I'm not sure if I can get into a university with this GPA.

Do I have any chance of getting into a university for mechanical engineering, or will I have to transfer from a community college? I havn't taken the SAT yet, but lets assume I get a 600 in math and a 700 in both of the language sections.

Many colleges require a minimum GPA for admission. I dont know which colleges you are planning to apply to but youd have to do really well on the SAT to outweigh that GPA, and I still dont think that would help that much. I think youre best bet would be to transfer from a community college. If you can write a really great personal statement about your situation, you might have a chance with great SAT Scores, but again I dont know where youre thinking of applying…

Average GPA for USF is a 3.7 with around a 1690 SAT Score
UF doesnt report average GPA but im assuming its higher with a SAT Score of about 1900

For mechanical engineering, your projected math SAT score is a bit low, though your extracurriculars show you have an amazing amount of potential. I would say you’d have the best chances transferring from a community college. Get great grades there, and you should be all set for a decent college.

I know there are universities further away that accept people like me, but they have less credibility. Would it be better off getting into one of those as a freshman, or transfering from community anyway, even if i can get accepted into a 4 year uni

Unis I’m talking about:

Jacksonville
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Florida Institute of Technology
FSU SAT scores are 600-700, but they accept 60% of applicants.
