What %acceptance should I consider to be a match or safety for me? W&L is 29%, with my SATs falling into their upper range, so would that school be a match? safety?

Colgate is not in the mountains. Pretty yes but high up, not really. for safety schools in the northeast you could look at University of Vermont, University of New Hampshire, St. Lawrence, and university of maine@farmington as in or close enough to mountains to appreciate the experience.

I don't know a lot about W&L, but if you didn't get accepted, I would wonder what they are looking for.

Hop over to the Colleges link and post that question in the W&L forum.

Colgate and Colby aren't exactly a safety if Middlebury is a reach considering that the SAT avg of these three schools is within five points of each other.

I wouldn't call W&L a safety by any means, but is a school that you would reasonably expect to have a good shot at, so would call it a match. I was considerably above the avg SAT of all schools I applied to and was still rejected or wait-listed at top four choices.

Colorado College
UVM - it's in Bennington, so it's not directly "in the mountains", but you don't get very far from mountains in Vermont!

Bowdoin, but it's not a safety.

Bennington College is in Bennington VT. UVM is in Burlington VT.

Appalachian State would be an ever so excellent choice as well, Nelle178. The mountains of North Carolina are gorgeous, and you would DEFINITELY get admitted there... :-)

sewanee is definitely a great safety for you, it goes up in the rankings and the campus is 10,000 acres
