haven't gone to check it out thoroughly yet...any experiences for HJ? Good? Bad?

Hey, I’m a freshman and I got Hinton James too. I’m not thrilled about it since I wanted to be on North Campus…but I would appreciate any feedback/stories too!

lol i tried for north campus as well. maybe putting us in the dorm furthest away from all the classes is unc’s way of having a laugh. jk. kind of. but yeah…looks like it’s just under 800 people, way far away from classes…any stories?
oh, and something i was wondering about, the website says there’s a piano in a rec room somewhere in the dorm. can anyone verify this? cause if so, that would make life a little more awesome than i was hoping for.

I stayed in HJ my first year, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

There is a piano in the rec room(at least, there was last year).

I think HJ is a great dorm. Yes, the facilities aren’t the best, but the experience is magnificent. The facilities aren’t so bad that you actually can’t stand the place, and just bad enough so everyone complains(and thus bonds). The worst part is the distance, but you get used to that really fast.

The distance really isn’t bad. I lived in Cobb, but went down to South Campus a lot. It’s like a 10-15 minute walk from there to the Pit. and 5 minutes further to most of your classes. On top of that, the bus system on campus is really good.

graj is right though. Living on South Campus gives you worse facilities, but that’s where you will meet the most people. Speaking from experience, I had way more friends down on South Campus than in my own hall.
