So during registrations for classes this semester both my advisor and I seemed to have mistakingly signed me up not for an 8AM programming class, but an 8PM. It goes from 8PM-10:45PM. I’ve looked at other available openings for other times but they are either conflicting my work schedule or the teacher’s ratings are for lower than the teacher I currently am signed up for.
As much as I’d like to just drop it, I’m gonna suck it up and stay with it because I need to get it out of the way.
Can you guys give me some insight to your experiences with nighttime classes? I’ve never taken a class pass noon let alone 8PM.
In my experience, there are ups and downs to taking a class at night. Particularly if you go to a large-scale university where students generally can’t park on campus (however, after 6 PM is usually when open parking starts at most schools), taking the bus might be burdensome, especially if the buses stop running sometime like 7 PM. So, I’d recommend bringing your car or something and parking in front of the building if you can. That way you can just peel out once class is done. I don’t recommend walking alone through a dimly-lit campus at night. We have had rapes and muggings in the last five years from people doing that.
However, if you’re a morning person (which I wasn’t but I sucked it up and just took all my classes during the morning because that was the only time they were offered. Go figure), you might be physically drained at the end of the day and not want to do anything else such as homework that you need done by 8 AM the next morning. Thus, you’ll need to plan your day appropriately so that you set aside time to do homework/reading and not just goof off if you have a long break between your last class/work and that night class.
The professor is the most important thing with any class. More important the time, building, proximity to parking lot, etc. Personally, I wouldn’t take a class that late because I don’t think I could stay awake through all of it. 10:45pm ending is kind of ridiculous.
What time do you normally wake up in the morning? I’d recommend having a half-caff drink of some sort to help you make it through on those days - that’s what I would do.
