So.... How are you PARENTS holding up?

It won't last beyond Plebe Year.

TRUST me! :D

Momof3boys... moving poem.. thanks!

Zaphod...the clean & tidy room seems to be only at the academy. Son was home for 5 days and his room now looks like a train wreck!

Jamzmom...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! Have you decided on being called Nana, Grammy, Grandma, Grandmother, or something else?

You should see MY room now. :D

Uh. I dunno. I'm still letting it sink in. My IQ level sank 100 pts. today. I can't concentrate on anything. Maybe the baby needs to call me Mrs. J. LOL Wonder if I should wait to see what the baby says. Just as long as its not Boo Boo or some such lovely endearment. Maybe I should be Grand-mere or Grand mama. Grandma just doesn't seem to fit. And hey! I'm gonna start stocking up on chocolate pudding. Start 'em young I say!!

Speaking of those messy rooms.... Boy can I relate. But here's the good news! With this new baby coming, my older son is about to get pay back! Weeee!

Speak for yourself Aspen. And Zap, pick up that mess (official momspeak)! How did you new service academy parents sleep last night? Find some time to do something relaxing tonight. Hot shower, dim lights, get off this computer atleast one hour before you go to bed. I mean it.

I just did. Kids are coming to visit tomorrow, and I have to keep up the appearance of being perfect. ;)

In the next 2-3 days, you folks should not be surprised to receive a hastily-scrawled letter from your Mid letting you know they're OK. Be on the lookout for it. My company made it mandatory, others may still be doing it. Frankly, I think it's a good idea.

Z, Did you go for the ocean-life theme in their room?

Yep! :D

The pink room is the "before". The eight pics at the bottom are the "after". I don't have pics of their made beds with the seashell, fish, and octopus kiddie blankets.

http://homepage.mac.com/luismulet/PhotoAlbum21.html

The ceiling and underside of the top bunk are painted with glow-in-the-dark paint, so when the lights go out, the stars (including a handmade moon and a few comets) come out. The light switch covers have been replaced with Sponge Bob and Nemo versions. I also have my old Navy caps and flight jacket hung in the closet.

A few more hours. Can't wait. :D

SCREAM That is priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done Zap!!!!! They are going to just be in heaven when they see that!! You are so gonna get 1000 kisses & hugs when they see it. You awesome Daddy you! I know you're going to have the best time with them. BTW, be honest. Did you have some help with that!? LOL Its really really really good. :)

Jamzmom - just have the baby call you Grand! Wouldn't that be cute on Grandparent's Day... "She's my Grand." I'm sure you'll be a grand grandmother anyway!

Zaphod, you did a fabulous makeover! Could this be a new career? Your little girls are just gonna love that room. Wait till they have friends over or talk about their room at school that "my daddy did this for me" will make them feel very special - and is so important to little ones.

Nice details - the glow-in-the-dark paint, the switchplates and the curtains! Your time was well invested.

I am a newbie- just took my son off on Wednesday to the Naval Academy- full of so many emotions. I am a scrapbooker and always use some type of poem or song to start off a scrapbook- this poem marks so many of the emotions which I want to put together. This forum is great- last night was my first night alone in the house ( single mom) and I read through so many of these posts and realized that I needed to join up- thank you again for sharing this poem ! Middiesmom2010- Beat Army!!!

Great idea about the music- going to try it- I cleaned out my son's car yesterday because it is a junker and going to give it to a neighbor for a beater- it was scary- am now afraid to touch the room- going to need hazard clothing to do so.

Can anyone give the straight lowdown on parent's weekend at the academy following the plebe summer? After reading through this forum, I learned quite a bit and feel like this is the place to ask my questions. I was planning on taking my son's girlfriend with us as an early birthday present for him. I know the relationship won't last until his real birthday in Oct, but felt this they could see each other at least one more time after the separation.
Any information about what to bring, what happens, etc would be appreciated. After going through induction day and realizing all the mistakes- running around to get a ton of immunizations thinking he would not be let in without them, then finding out they were giving them out for free- packing the bag with the requirments and then my son telling us he thinks they gave him 50 pairs of socks, etc. I laughed about the socks- knowing my son the 50 pairs will last about three weeks:)

Middiesmom, CONGRATS!!!! Welcome to the club. Glad you found this forum. You're going to have such fun with that scrapbook. After Parent's Weekend, you'll reallllllly have such great stuff to work with. Ya'll must be dyin' for that first letter to arrive. Hope it comes soon! My son brought all of his letters home when he was in this last trip. They are a hoot to read at this stage. One of my letters made me cry. Brought back all of those intense emotions. I loved one where his brother had traced his hand & wrote "Hi" in the middle of it. That was it. Nothing else. Geez. He's 24 years old so it was really funny. Middiemom, don't go in the room yet. Its bad. You'll find yourself laying on his bed for a good cry. Wait a few more days. :) One of the Navy parents will pipe in on what happens PPW. Sorry, I'm a USMMA mom.

Sealion. I like it! Just "Grand". Simple & perfect. I think the hubby is going for "Pop". I turned up my nose but whatya do. I gotta go buy something. I don't know what, but I gotta go to a baby dept. somewhere today....

Zaphod- congratulations on your home and the fabulous makeover of the "under-the-sea" castle!!! You did an awesome job! Congrats, and wishing you many happy memories there!
BTW, be honest. Did you have some help with that!?
No ma'am. Did it all by myself.

Well, my BIL did help me by cutting-in while painting the closet, and putting the bed together. Other than that, I did it solo.

LOL Its really really really good.

LOL! Not on your life! I'd be AWFUL at it!

My sister helped me pick out the bedsheets and curtains.

You should see the bathroom. Wasn't able to do anything with the room itself, but the curtain, rug, and towels are pretty slick. She is really quite good at it, and it IS going to be her second career. :)

I'll post pics later of the fully-finished room. ;)

A molotov cocktail should do the trick. ;)

welcome middiesmom! I could not keep the poem for myself. My Nathan is a passionate writer.

Z, I thought that was YOUR bedroom.;) (You did a great job!)

Zaphod...really what a wonderful job, how fortunate your little girls are to have such a great Daddy ...

And welcome Middiesmom...careful, this forum can become addicting ;)

In a way, it is. The mirror and the dresser are from the bedroom set my parents bought me when I was 3 years old. My dad has the desk, chair, and the hutch (wouldn't fit in this room anyway).

So in a way, I have been able to do what I always wanted to do: pass on that set to my kids. I always anticipated a son, but the Lord moves in mysterious ways, so He sent me two girls who love the ocean. Go figure! :D
