So.... How are you PARENTS holding up?

They were exceptionally close during highschool and he ended up leaving the academy after two years so they could get married.

AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

<-- Banging his head against the desk.

Good thoughts, best wishes, many prayers, good luck & congrats, go off to the Coast Guard Academy this morning. The parents are lucky to have Boss there today looking after them. He'll be handing out tissues to worried Mom's & handshakes to proud Dads. Good luck class of 2010!!

Unfortunately I was unable to attend today but I got quite a report from my DD.

Apparently three or fours kids and their parents were quite distraught at the end of the day...the kids wanted out then and there...oh oh. Hopefully they hang in there and do on to thrive at the Academy.

BTW Cadet Mom was in attendance today and I'm sure she will be reporting later.

Wasn't it great to get the first letters- my son sounded upbeat- and remarked ( after day 2) that he loved every minute. I was lucky because the football coaches called last week and reported on my plebe- thought it was a nice touch. Can't get on the site today to see what the schedule is. I am spending my time- dejunking my son's room what a mess- I can't wait to see a picture of his"clean dorm room"- I'll never believe it after clearing through piles of stuff in his room!

Hey MM - you are lucky - I still no have not heard from Kyle (Fergsonfire)-

I have been on the Thornton website - maybe I am missing something- but I am finding it hard to find pics.......any advice would be appreciated - I am pretty internet savvy, but this site has me a little stumped. Any tips would be appreciated.

Zaphod - have a safe trip!!

1- The picture site is extremely user unfriendly- I teach computer to teachers- and I had one heck of a time searching out anything- so don't feel bad. Plus I am unsure how I did certain things- so it is just confusing.

2- I think I got a letter because the football coaches had him do it. Otherwise my son might have let it slip. Also, I just got mine on Monday- and with you living in Seattle- it will probably come some time later this week. The holiday really screws up the mail. Plus- my son wrote about a total of 8 lines with 4 of them for his girlfriend. Still- it was nice to see the love Bobby at the end. Its hanging on my refrigerator right now and will something I put in his scrapbook when I start this new one.

I just keep writing notes- short ones- and sending off care packages- anything to keep my mind off the fact that I miss my son. Hope you hear from your son soon. Let me tell you- getting that first envelope from the NA was a proud mom moment- and a real heart memory.

Good evening to all of you,

What a perfect day to make my first post. I've enjoyed reading all your posts the last week or so, and I almost feel like I know some of you...I just might if your from Annapolis. Anyways, our daughter Kristen is in G-14 and from what we saw today at the 12:00 formation she is doing just fine...thankfully. We've been down there twice now and it's trully a blessing to be able to drop in anytime you please, and we really feel for you parents that are a long way from your kids....hang in there. Anyways, the kids look absolutely GREAT! We went down on Saturday as well and you could see it in their faces that they were tired, beat up a bit, and the heat was taking it's toll....not to mention the in your face routine they probably haven't dealt with much....but today was a different day, like they got their second wind and have adapted to a certain extent.....which made mom and I feel MUCH better.

I'm really glad some of you with alot of experience have stepped forward and are helping out, it's trully nice to see. So I guess it's time to come clean here.....I'm retired ARMY...Hooah, and my wife is a First Sergeant in the ARMY....HOOAH. (and retiring before Xmas :) ) Kristen's sister was in the Air Force and we come from a military heavy family background, so it's a thrill for us to see Krissy take this route and achieve her dreams, and staying close to home to boot.. :) So it looks like we may all be sharing some of our dreams together, and a few stories on here as well.

So if anyone needs anything from me here in the area, please don't hesitate to send me a meassage and we'll do anything we can to help out....to include taking in your Mids that need a place to hang out...more than enough room since we're now empty nesting. Any of you from California or Minnesota?

I also payed for the Thornton site...and I agree, it's a total mess. Every link leads to something they want more money for, and all I've seen is the 3 pictures of Krissy that they provide, nothing else. I'd love to see ALL the kids pictures.... So if I'm doing something wrong, please advise. thanks.

Happy 4th to you all.....Our great nation was built on the strength of our Men and Women in uniform, past AND present....god bless them all.

THANK YOU!!!

We're from Thousand Oaks, CA and we dropped our son off at I-Day last week and we miss him so much! I was going to clean his room today, but I'm just not ready... not ready to cry and reminisce.

I am so happy that his dream came true and he's now a Plebe at USNA, but I definitely feel sorry for myself!!!

What pride you must have for your entire family...and thank you all for your sacrifice! I have a wonderful son who needs a wonderful sponsor family... his friend's parents always loved him being around, so if he needs a great family, it sound like you might be just what the doctor ordered!

His name is Adam (zeronegligence) and he is in L22 and he is a great kid (along with the other wonderful 1217 Plebes I'm sure) but he needs a good home away from home!

Thanks for your post and HAPPY 4th of JULY!!!

-gypsycl

I want to say thank you so much for your post about the kids having a second wind today. For some reason, today was a little harder- I needed to hear that the kids were okay.

Looking for all the pictures on the Thornton site?
Go to the member page. Scroll down to the bottom where it says "Events and Special Links" Click I-day and all the pictures will come up...If you double click on the picture, it will enlarge to a larger black and white photo. We found some of our son this way. The group shots are hard to decifer with the lines and writing they leave on them. If your childs nametag is visible those pictures seem to pop up under their name. Anyway, if you want to go through all the pictures, that is were they are. I am assuming that soon, pictures will start coming up under their platoon ar squad. That should make this easier. Well see...

2010_DAD
It was great to hear about your visit. We see so many pictures of I-day. It was comforting to read your post about how they are NOW. Thanks for updating us.

Ferg's mom, no worries. I have a funny feeling that he's busy helping others but that your letter will come soon. He's just that kind of truly good kid. :)

2010_DAD, congrats! I know you must be sooo proud.

I hope you guys' website gets improved upon soon. Surely someone realizes its a problem & they'll step it up. Hang tough a little while longer! Eat chocolate like I told you!!

Good morning- one of the other Annapolis plebe parents has pictures out on the web of some of the activities that the plebes are doing. The site is dropshots.com. She took pictures ( really good one) of the celebrations from yesterday, some formations, and sports activities. Check it out and see if you find your plebe.

2010_Dad,

Welcome aboard! I just want to know who you'll root for during the Army-Navy game. :)

Can anyone else get into the schedule on Thornton of today? It keeps saying, it will be posted on the day. Ummmm...it IS the 5th... I'm looking for F Company. Thanks! My boxes are heading out to the chaplains today!

Thanks for the welcome, and your all welcome if you found any comfort in my report.

Gypsycl - Not a problem, as they go through the process (the kids) they will find friends in their squad/platoons etc. that they may want to hang out with locally here, but if he needs a place, he's got it. I'll be waiting to see who Krissy wants to bring home, but we have alot of time to take care of this. I'm from Sacramento, but left in 82.

Beam...your welcome, will keep the reports coming.

Jams - Very Proud! And it's neat to see the other parents and families out there beaming when they see their kids...fun to watch.

Momoftwins- Do you really need to ask??? Go Army! Well ok, it's not as loud as I normally yell it, and I'm already getting all the flack from my office mates for all the Navy garb I now have on my desk....lol. I'm looking for one of those hats that is half Navy Half Army to wear to the big game. I'll be strickly Navy for all the home games of course....unless I get beat up by one of my soldiers..ha.

Have a good day all....

2010 Dad.

Well, at least you haven't completely gone over to the dark side.

2010-Dad: welcome! Glad to see you will be adding some Blue-n-Gold to your Black-n-Gold household! GO NAVY! ;)

ps....come and join our bake-a-thon for a needy mid! Sign up on the "Bakers needed" thread! See you there!

Hi everyone - just want to encourage all of you USNA parents to be sure that you've signed up for the listserve(s). There are two of them, one thru usna-parents.org, and one at USNA-net.org.
It was a little confusing because we didn't realize at first that there were two separate lists, but both are great sources of information. Also, they are private lists, only open to parents of plebes & mids, so that is where the best info & links can be found.

Hope everyone is doing well today. I made the mistake of attempting the clean up/clean out of ds' room yesterday (without the hazmat suit even!). I ended up lying on his bed clutching his stuffed Mickey from childhood days. It was sick, I know - blame it on the fumes!

Hope to see you all on PPW - 36 days and counting!!
~bz
P.S. I thought I posted this info earlier, but didn't see it anywhere - sorry if it turns out to be a double post somehow. Cheers!

Check out the new photo's from the picnic they had yesterday, looks like they had a blast and the weather wasn't to bad for them last night....a few big storms in the area. Anyways, enjoy like I just did:
