So, how 'bout them teachers?

I've seen a few threads here about some less-than-stellar teachers, but how about a little appreciation for the brilliant, witty, life-altering ones out there doing their part?

Let's hear it for the math teacher that dresses as a TI-83 calculator for Halloween (or, you know, Fridays), the physics teacher who accepts the answer "the projecile wouldn't go over the fence because there was an elephant in the way," and the ex-hippy lit teacher that describes critical analysis as "sexy...but not as sexy as narratives!". Not to mention the bio teacher who lectures so well that it is possible to never open the book and get a 5 on the AP exam, the Spanish teacher who (gladly) embarrasses herself acting out vocab words to get them to stick, and the history teacher that holds review sessions every Saturday in the park for whoever wants them.

Come share stories about your stellar teachers. I know you have them... :)

You might be talking about my less-than-stellar teacher. However, the vast majority of the teachers I have had are great teachers, especially my math teacher and physics/bio teacher (same teacher). My calc teacher will do whatever she can to make sure you understand the material being taught. She tries her absolute best to make sure you are ready for college as well as life after school. In addition to her coaching duties, she shows up as much as an hour before school starts to help those students that are struggling. I have had several math teachers throughout my educational experience, and she is by far the best.

As for my physics and bio teacher, he is my favorite teacher ever. He knows the right mix of fun and learning and helps make the material interesting. When I took high school bio in 10th grade, I absolutely hated it. Although that teacher wasn't a bad teacher, I didn't find the material interesting. However, I liked my chemistry teacher so much I decided to take his physics and college bio classes as well. Although I don't think I will be majoring in bio in college or anything, I do enjoy that class. He cares about what is happening with his students, not only in the classroom, but in their lives outside of the school. The vast majority of students who take his classes understand and retain the material better because of the way he teaches. Oh, and he writes amazing recommendations also :)

I don't have THAT amazing teachers. Yours sound awesome! Mine are usually just...really good teachers.

I have AWESOME teachers. Seriously they're all good. But the thing that divides the good teachers from the great one's, to me anyway. is an ability to make their subjects intriguing.

in a word, no. (see my thread on the Northeast presidents). Honestly, I would be so pumped to have great teachers like that. Be happy while you got 'em, if you do.

I love my Academic Decathlon coach. :)
