So, how do you get into USC?

This topic is specifically for the USC undergrads (if there are any).

I am interested in applying ED to USC when senior year comes around. I made this decision because I love film and business, and I hope to double major in them at USC's Marshall and CNTV (even though I heard USC only allows 30 students a year to do so).

Currently, I am enrolled as a junior at a private high school in Boston, MA. My grades (because the school has neither a GPA program nor a class ranking system) are in the B+ to A- range. My SAT was a 2240 last time I took it and I will take it again next month.

I don't want to divulge too much into any stats or facts about myself. But, do I already have the credentials to be considered candidate for admission into USC?

If you think my ECs and other school activities will be vital to my admission, I will post them.

Uhh..For this program, your EC's are most definetely important. Your grades and SAT probably aren't as important as EC's for such a program...

FYI
USC doesn't have an ED program.
They don't even have EA.

Also, your chances (not just you, andybody) of getting into both Marshall and CNTV are not very good. They are both very competitive schools. But, you never know.

By ED, I meant very early.

Well, here are my ECs.

At School:
- Founder and Editor-in-Chief of School's First and Best Humor Publication
- Associate Editor/Section Editor of A&E for my school's principal paper
- Co-Head of Investment Club
- Varsity Baseball, Football

We don't have honor roll...or anything of that sort at my prep school which kinda sucks.

Outside:
- Worked for/at MIT CBA's Fab Lab in the SETC where I taught underprivileged kids, young adults and adults how to use 3d modeling machinery, circuit-board etching equipment, and laser printers (not like the type you use to print out your term paper's...like actually laser beam) to create anything out (i.e. sandals) of anything (i.e. acrylic and rubber) and make it look professional.
- This summer, I was hired as a PA on a documentary about how litigious our society, Hollywood especially, is nowadays. Supposedly, there will be interns from USC and UCLA on the set, too.
- In addition, I am jumpstarting two online companies (just finished the funding phase this weekend). One company will sell t-shirts emblazoned w/ images of today's macho figures (i.e. Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris -- had to buy the rights to the pictures...cost me mucho $$$). The other company will sell custom computers at cheap prices that will be built around a customer's specific needs and demands.

Senior Classes:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, or Global Economics and Microeconomics
Creative Writing (my art requirement)
English (haven't been assigned a specific class yet)
Philosophy

My school doesn't offer APs in any other subject besides math unless you want to do Gov't and/or Politics which I'd rather not...

also, demonstrate significant interest in your field of study through outside programs, extracurriculars and school involvement.

I applied for USC just before the scholarship deadline last december, and my acceptance letter was postmarked March 1st.

For Marshall you should be fine, CNTV is super tough though.

Would you have to have been filming feature length movies since you were 2 to get into CNTV?

no you don't, you can even have little to no experience in filmmaking at all. as long as you show admissions that you have story telling experience in other mediums such as photography, art, writing, or stage. It is just important that you are a good storyteller and that you atleast understand visual storytelling and show promise at it. but it definitely doesn't hurt to make some films and get experience in film.

Well, every summer I write one or two screenplays in my free time. I also submitted one of my screenplays (a modern day adaptation of Paradise Lost) into my school's creative writing competition and won. Would it be feasible to send in a screenplay along with my application?

^ CNTV probably would want that for their own college supplement. (they probably would want a portfolio, film, or creative writing piece...)

USC doesn't have any early decision/early choice application afaik. The earliest you can send it in is by the scholarship deadline sometime in december.

Yeah, USC definitely offers no ED or EA. You are probably confusing that with the scholarship deadline, as those who meet the deadline and qualify for a scholarship interview are accepted early.

^ He already said he knows there is no ED @ USC.. ^_^

Okay, now that I know what the credentials are for CNTV and Marshall.

How about the activities on and off campus? Besides the fall football games, what are the type of things students typically do on the weekend, or during the weekdays?

Also, were you, undergrads or grads, happy with your decision to attend USC? Has it been a rewarding experience?

Not that any of those questions are vague... :P

I'm enjoying USC quite well. If I had two things to grumble about, it is about only one bad professor so far and that I really could use a car here. But I'm not going to let those spoil my experience here.

There are lots of options, depending on what you're interested in. For example, I'm involved with InterVarsity TCF, with regular activities during the week. Other students have other interests.

I'm happy with the decision. I'm actually excited about going to class for once.
