So how does this "Alternate List" Work?

It seems to me that a lot of people on this site were put on the alternate list, myself included. Does anyone know how many people were put on the list, and what the chances are of being admitted from it?

I heard somewhere that last year they didn't let anyone in off the list, and the year before that it was only around 29 or so...

Last year, as they indicated in the wait list letter, they had an unexpectedly high enrollment rate, so they did not need to tap the wait list. They adjusted their admission rate this year in anticipation of another high enrollment. Who knows? The decision may backfire and they'll need to draw significantly from the wait list - that is what happened at Haverford last year.

well the waitlist letter pretty much gave all the numbers. But I presume with this waitlist thing that essentially if we're selected from the waitlist and choose to attend, we would be forfeiting our deposit to whatever other school we chose

I was waitlisted as well. There seems to be a lot of waitlist action this year...I'm thinking since a lot of schools' yields will be so low because of the high amount of colleges people apply to, then the amount accepted from the wait list must be a bit higher. Or at least, we can hope! I was pretty upset about this one. Anything we can do to help out our chances, do you think?

just make sure that you continue to show your interest. The college is more likely to give you a second look if you can prove to them that you are certain to go if they accept you.
